COMMENTS

Another in my series of extremely rare, but poor quality fusion DVDs. This time it's Steve Smith's Vital Information playing on the Korg stage at NAMM in 1991. This is from the band's best period when they played more fusion material and Gamable had some crunch. Obviously, the audio and video could be dramatically better - it's from a hand held camera with no tripod, no external mics and the stage is poorly lit so the picture is quite dark and grainy throughout. It is fairly steady though. Although this is a color DVD, it looks B/W in many instances, especially on the wider shots.

However, despite these flaws, you can see and hear what's going on. The band of course deliver a great show and there is some nice close ups of Gambale's solos and monsterous sweep picking technique. If you're a casual fusion fan I would not recommend the download. However, if you want to study these killer musicians in action or if you are a hard core fusion collector then this is an interesting addition to your collection. Steve Smith gets a lot of time on camera so drummers will like this one. Filmed by someone from Korg USA.

Enjoy!
