Best Female Rock Singers

Here they are!"Rock" being generic,of course.
Went from soft rock,to hard rock...Famous voices.
Skiped goth-rock,we all know that Amy Lee (Evanescence) and Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation) are the best, right?

If I forgot someone or I couldn't add (because of the limited Poll options),use the "Others" option and post her name. (Pia Zadora? )

To make sure it's not too complicated, choose the one who's voice sounds best in your book, regardless the genre.
The one voice who impresses you the most.

My vote goes to Ann Wilson.

Shania Twain - the 'Beginnings' demos she wrote with Paul Sabu 1989-1990

P.S. - What do you people think about the new album from Alannah Myles..?

Good list, Melissa Etheridge is probably the only one that doesn't really do anything to me... and Sharon den Adel roools too..! Amy Lee..? pfffft.

:P

Sorry, but she sounds like shit on those.
Shania made a LOT of progress since and now she has great control of her voice. She's also remarkable live.
However, not quite fit for the idea of the Poll...

Heck, they were only demos... heh, some of those tracks were recorded in a sauna at Deerhurst Resort.

She's *incredible* live - saw her first in Hyde Park (audience of 85,000) and another time in Helsinki (12,000)

Amazing presence and charisma.

;)

I had a hard time picking just one.
I love Janis and Lita but Sass Jordan's voice
gives me the most satisfaction, had to go with
her on this one.

Does Steve Perry count? He should...he hasn't had any balls in over 10 years. I vote for Steve Perry.

I would vote for Cher but she was not on the list.

If you disregard personality, looks, good works in the community and strip it down to just the voice=Ann Wilson. She's also a good person too though.
Ann's voice has a joy in it even when she's singing a dark song. She can lay melody into the tune without even the accompaniment of instruments. "Dog and Butterfly" is the most beautiful song ever recorded.

My sentiments exactly! Sass is the gal for me!
DAMN, I wished she would've joined Van Halen instead of Gary Cherone!!!!

Had to go with Stevie Nicks, but Ann Wilson and Joplin are right up there, too. 8)

I will add Patty Smyth (Scandal), Jann Arden and Heather Nova

Ann Wilson is one of my favorites.

Amy Lee should also be on this list. Evanescence is a very good band.

Benatar. She sounds like no one else. Ann Wilson's terrific but sounds too much like Robert Plant to be as completely unique as Benatar.

And Neil Giraldo's about as good a guitarist as there is. They're perfect together.

And get Joplin off this list, Christ he she makes my ears hemmorhage.

My vote is for Ann Wilson. Just saw Heart the other night. Her voice is still unbelievable.

I saw Ann Wilson tear the roof off the coliseum in my home town in 1978. Magic.

Honestly can't decide between Ann Wilson and Pat Benatar, too close. And with ya Red when it comes to Janis Joplin. While I really like Sass for her gritty vocals, never did get the appeal of Joplin's. :?

Two more great choices AR, Patty and Jann, but not sure who Heather Nova is.

X Factor: Sass was going to join Van Halen??? :?

Had Amy Lee been on the list, she would have had my vote, the girl's voice gives me chills, and not many do that.

Janis or Ann... geez. Janis FELT her songs more, but Ann was a technically better songstress. Gut went with Ann, but Janis is nibbling at her toes.

She gets my vote, too. She could be so sweet and soft and then instantly reach in and tear out your heart. Nobody like her today except maybe that performance by Kelly Clarkson and Jeff Beck on AI. What a combination of control and sheer power. Kelly needs to do a Janis tribute. She's the only one that I think could do her justice.

I had to go with Ann Wilson, I've always loved her voice. But I also really like newcomer Josh Stone. Her voice has such a great tone. Also Amy Lee is on my list of faves as well. :)

Now that brings back some memories...another great thing about Heart back then was their band...Roger Fisher (I think thats his name) is an amazing guitar player, highly underrated.

Oh, and a little known band opened for them who had just put out their first album...FOREIGNER

Lita Ford blows them all away! Not only does she sing good , but she is one of the best female guitar players.
Did ya'll know that Jeff and Lita Ford worked together on her 1991 cd Dangerous Curves. Jeff does the back ground on songs such as " Shot Of Poison" ,"Black Widow" and "Hellbound Train". On "Hellbound Train" even though Jeff is supposed to be the backing vocals, but you hear his voice louder and clearer than Lita's! 'Atta boy, Jeffrey :)

:o Really? Wow,I had no idea...I don't have the original "DC" album,so no liner notes to look into.
But I'll give those songs another listen and pay attention. Thanks for the heads up,B.

My "Other" vote goes to Bonnie Raitt, though I guess technically she's more of a blues singer.

Not in 1978.

That's only because they had not come up with the buffet idea yet!

I gotta go with Stevie Nicks. Smokin hot and a killer voice!
