This is such a great song. I wonder why it's been dropped from the setlist on more recent tours.

It's funny how so many non-Journey fans post on the Journey board.

This is from Phoenix, Arizona - 1998. One of Steve's first shows with them I believe.

It's the only greatest hit that I had yet to hear Augeri sing. So I've been curious to hear how it sounds.

He got fired because Journey's ridiculous touring schedule blew out his voice. That doesn't mean that he sucks. It means that when you're fronting a band that can't afford to not tour every year, something's gonna give eventually.

Hell no. I don't know his reasons for doing what he did, or the reasons for the rest of the band and the management for letting it go on...but I do know that when he was good, he rocked....

I loved the guy when he actually sang, tried and sang his ass off....until 2003.

When he couldn't do the deed, he should have said, "fuck this, I respect the legacy, I am gone." But noooooooooo, he lipped his way through at least one tour and a half.....

Now, you saying he rocked, is complete bullshit. There isn't one boot out there where he is outstanding. He couldn't sing the songs in the proper key, and I know that is one tough job, because no one can sing Perry; however, he was never drop dead awesome. He got by, at best.

Pipe down there fuckhole.

You are clueless.

As far as the "legacy" goes, I think he respected it more than whomever was pushing them to stay out on the road without even an album to support. He was the driving force behind Generations, and yes, we all know how that turned out, but at least he knew that going out on the road without some justification other than playing the same songs for the umteenth time and raking in the cash would label them what they've become: a nostalgia act.

It turned out to be less than what we all hoped for, but at least he was trying to get the band to create something new instead of just feeding at the teet of the cash cow we know as the dirty dozen. And he was only ever a moderate Journey fan.

As far as our opinion on his live perfomance, that's all it is, opinion. You like "Run To You", I don't. It's all good. I'm curious as to what you mean "couldn't sing the songs in the proper key". They played in standard tuning. I don't think they ever dropped the tuning while he was in the band. Even Perry did on the FTLOSM tour. (You probably knew I was gonna say that, but it's true and I don't think it's a bad thing.)

Respected the Legacy? He thanked Steve Perry on the liner notes, then goes out and openly commits singer fraud, not giving a shit that he was ridiculing Perry by singing along to a tape. How the Hell is that respect? I would totally and completely respect Augeri had he stepped up and said, "I can't do this right now." I would have taken his side against Neal and Friga. But no, he willngly cashed those big checks and deceived us...all of us, each and every night. I applaud him for his desire to want to write. The band are lazy, let's face it. They have no will to write, and they proved that in Generations. They threw some shit together and said, "that's good." Butterfly and Believe are awful songs by the way. perhaps that's the reason the band didn't want to write with him....he sucks at it.

What does Run to You have to do with Augeri's live performance? Adams sings live, Augeri sings to tape. Augeri was rarely ever in key. Anyone with any musical knowledge knows this. Soto is in key, and he fucks up once in awhile, but is always in key. Perry did sing on the FTLOSM tour in a turned down key, but he could shit songs and still sound good...he is just that good.

I'm starting to get a bad feeling that the Schon and Friga and/or management may have held his contract over his head and legally bullied him into lipping. Just a thought. And hey, if Friga, Schon and Valory didn't respect the "legacy" why should Augeri have? I am now 100% on Augeri's side because there was NO "legacy" when he was on stage anyway. They were basically just live karaoke. Senior members of the band, who built something over 30+ years, should've cared about what they were doing to their image and to their fans. But they didn't, so I see NO reason why Augeri should've cared about people that were 99% Perry fans anyway. He did what he was told and slipped away, leaving Friga and Schon with the mess that THEY created. Friga and Schon fucked us, not Augeri. Augeri was merely their puppet.

Bullshit. They couldn't make Augeri go out there if he didn't want to. He is a big boy. I keep hearing how sincere and great and classy Augeri is....to me, he is anything but those superlatives.

Schon and Friga didn't walk out there and lip. Neal played his guitar very well, and Friga played his keys very well; not their fault.

Also, and I don't give a shit anylonger, but Azoff played a part in this too.

I don't care for Butterfly and Believe either and I don't dispute you over your feelings about Augeri. You might be right about his writing ability, but the other guys didn't turn in any masterpieces on Gens either. There are a few songs on there that are memorable, but for the most part they're all hook-less and forgettable. They could have written with somebody like Jack Blades and had another Arrival if they had wanted, but they didn't. They just wanted to keep touring and rehashing old hits. I would have been very pleased if Gens had measured up to Arrival. As it is, there's only about four or five songs out of that whole record that I can listen to.

I referenced "Run To You" to highlight the fact that opinions differ and are always going to do so. I never debated whether TG occured because I heard evidence supporting it with my own ears, but I do think that Augeri was very good in Journey for a long time and I enjoyed his performances. That's my opinion.

Oh yeah! We exchanged some PMs around the first of the year, I aplogize for letting it slip my mind. I still have the PMs!

The California thing was an opportunity that didn't pan out, unfortunately, but I'm still playing in a band and we're in the process of getting some new songs recorded and up on our myspace to replace the ones that are still there with our former singer.

Again, I'm really sorry

While they couldn't have made Augeri go out there, they could have also STOPPED him. They didn't, because they didn't care about the sincerity of the music, the "legacy" or us, the fans. So I ask you again, if senior members of the band didn't care, why should a "hired hand?" By that time I'm quite sure Augeri had figured out he was merely there to tour and keep the money streaming in. You said it best when you were on your anti-Journey tirade. "These guys have no souls." As it pertains to the band and the decisions they've made over the last 5 or so years, you were 100% correct.
