Kevin Chalfant Journey tribute cd. What a voice!!

I just recieved a copy of Kevin Chalfants Journey cd I am not sure who has this yet but belive me it is exellant. Listening to the likes of 'Where Were You' and' Dont Stop Beliving' Kevins voice is nothing short of superb and he does not duck any notes like Augeri did, thats not a put down on his early work with the band but he always struggled and seemed he was reaching beyond his range if you know what i mean. Jeff Scott Soto may have the strength of voice and Augeri had the perry sound but Kevin clearly has both. Obviously you cannot compare Kevin to Perry as good as he is but it just makes you consider the decision the band made when it came to singers to replace Perry.
I have always been unsure if Kevin should have got the job after Perry and even after Augeri but now i am thinking he really was/is the man for the job. This does not take anything away from Jeff who i think is doing a great job but will the new cd will sound like Journey when sounding like Perry is not your natural voice? i am not sure, were as with Kevin we know he just has that Journey voice.
I am sure many people will listen to this and wonder what could have been and can you imagine Kevin and Dean singing together?....wow
Your thoughts :)

You should have spent your money on a dictionary.

I heard Kevin sing DSB a few weeks back and he struggled mightily. Yes, he has a good voice, but he too would have blown his voice out. His voice is better than Deen's, but not by much. I've heard the CD and think it's a touch above mediocre, close to good. Kevin is a great performer and artist but the Journey catalog is clearly out of his league.

Looking at their touring schedule, the Journey catalogue is out of everybody's league at that rate of performance.

I really don't know how SP's voice stayed so good for so long with that timetable.
It's punishing, truly punishing.

You know, there's a lot of talk about Bryan Adams on here, doesn't he gig all the time, but - just 3 or 4 nights in a row with suitable rest periods in between? He has the right idea. Rest the voice well between shows but still keep the fans entertained.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I haven't ordered it yet. Don't know if I will or not. But Kevin's solo cd "Running With the Wind" is excellent. I highly recommend it!!!!

Unless the CD way outshines the clips I heard of this I won't be buying. He hits the notes in the clips, but that's all. They're just notes. Image

Oh,if we take it that way, then the Journey classic catalogue is out of ANYONE's league.
Seriously, even SP himself blew his cords by singing those songs night after night.

No one,not even The Voice could re-record those tunes as they were sang back then. Those songs are forever locked in that form.

With that being said,Kevin did a pretty good job.I still believe that it was his long time wish and his pleasure to sing the classics as he wanted to.Nothing more,I am bored by the idea of the "hidden reasons". :P

I heard him struggle through DSB and that was ONE song. Ten years ago....maybe. Now? No way. Jeremey sings circles around Chalfant.

The cd is great...but it did take me about 3 weeks to get it. I was listening to KC sing Faithfully earlier today, and I was surprised at how well he hit those notes. I agree with the original post in this thread that stated KC had more of a "Journey" voice than JSS. I think JSS has great skills...but for me, his voice is just not a good match for the Journey catalogue.

OMG yes!! Jeremey puts so much more of his OWN heart and soul into the songs. He doesn't just hit the notes he makes them grab you.

I agree. If Journey every decides to bring in another singer, (I hope they don't because Jeff is the man.) they they should seriously give Hunsicker an audition. If they don't they're nuts.

Great singer but... Too many runs.... IMHO. Tries too hard to sound like Perry.

Here ya go. LIVE at a BAR.....no studio, no Pro Tools no second chances. Straight LIVE. Notice how much more power he has. Chalfant can't carry his mic stand.

Perhaps as close to Perry as it gets during the chorus. A party I was lucky enough to be at. Honored, is actually the more appropriate term. These guys fuckin' jam!!!
