Only Choice - Hugo

If they can't get Perry back, Hugo is the only logical choice and here is why:

They can't hire and fire 3 singers within 1 year. They lose all credibilty and it just looks bad from a fans perspective. It will ultimatley effect ticket sales (new record sales is a non-event for them). Fans who bought tickets last summer expecting Augeri got JSS, who has a great voice but does not fit stylistically. Those fans felt cheated.

If you want the real Journey experience than you have to have a singer with an incredible range. Perry is pretty much irreplaceable. I can't think of any famous singer who is still vital and can fill those shoes without turning this into a joke.

Now Hugo is so close to the real thing, both look-wise and vocal-wise that the fans will give Journey a pass. There is a huge "awe factor" when you see this guy live. I've seen it and its insane. He is virtually a younger and better looking version of Perry... sounds just like him. It sounds weird on paper but trust me you have to see it. The fans would go nuts for him. Plus it would create chatter (ala Judas Priest). I disagree with Brian's #2 scenario. Journey is not going to win over many new fans with new material. It's all about the catalogue and giving the fans the ultimate experience... like they remember it. Paul Rodgers is one of my favorite singers but not my first choice for Queen. Where's the performance aspect that made Queen so unique? I don't care to sit through new songs live do you? Give the fans what they want.

Hugo is the closest thing to the real experience without tarnishing it becasue he can actually sing like a bird. The guys from the other journey tribute bands don't come close. They are old and tired with no image and no stage chops. Again, if you don't believe me go to youtube. You'll see. Hugo is the guy.

Hi, until a few days ago I hadn't seen/heard Hugo perform. I've now seen a few clips of him - but I want to know a bit more about him.
How old is he? When were these clips recorded?
What's his surname and history, please?

His physical similarities to SP are astonishing.
Creeps me out a bit, however.

This is probably the 27th time I've seen Hugo brought up since this whole thing started, but the first time I've commented.

Hugo is the wrong choice. Hugo is like one of those impersonators you'd see in Vegas...I'd never buy him in Journey.

Augeri has a similar timbre & range, but he was himself...Hugo is trying to be Perry himself and, judging by his solo materal, always has been...

Sorry, but the dude's voice is just too thin for the Journey gig. Not enough power behind it. His vibrato is also terrible compared to Perry's or most other professional singers, for that matter.

The funny thing is he sounds more like Perry when he's not trying to....like in 'Valentine'.

Hugo rocked in 'Valentine'.....CP is right, Hugo hasn't the power to pull these songs off.

I agree! Jeremey's voice is much stronger! I watched a few you tube videos with Hugo's Evolution band, and I could barely hear him over the music.

Listen to his song, 'Crazy', and you'll see what I mean.

The videos you are watching are from his Journey tribute band. He is trying to look/dress like Perry on purpose. If he was in Journey, he would obviously be himself. As far as the other comments go, Hugo has had multiple record deals and has toured extensively. He is a consummate professional with incredible stage chops. He is not only a great singer who can pull off the Perry stuff but he can also perform… he is capable of fronting a real rock band without disappointing the audience. You can’t have it all especially when your filling Perry’s shoes but this is as close to the real experience your going to get.

No way. Even as dumb as Schon and Cain seem to be lately, I don't think they'd be dumb enough to do something this freaky.

Pre-Augeri, Schon was quoted as saying Hugo was cool, but it would be "too weird" to make him singer...

Hugo is the guy trust me. He is a real frontman. Jeremy has a good voice but he is a bar singer with no image and no stage chops. Journey was an arena/stadium act. Jeremy is not a stadium frontman. I guarantee if you were in an arena and Hugo came out with full production, your jaw would be on the floor because mine was and i just saw it on a club level. You can't have Perry back, but you can have the next best thing without compromising the integrity of the band.

Does anyone else get the idea that there are about three Hugo stalkers that post incessantly about this guy?

Several people here have seen both Jeremey and Hugo, and Jeremey is the unanimous favorite.

What?

Integrity? They don't have any integrity.

Hugo is a fuckin tribute singer you jackass.

What a dipshit.

Maybe a unanimous decision for the cast of the new Sopranos movie but that is about as close to Journey he's going to make it!

Eeewwww, eeewwww, eeeewwww! No tribute band singers, yuk!! They should have left it alone. Tapegate was bad enough, but they recovered. Jeff may not have been every fan's cup of tea, but he also brought fans. The whole "sound like our records" is a lame excuse. Jeff sang the catalogue and did it justice. Fucking cop out lame ass excuse on Cain's part.

Listen ass wipe, if that's what you think, the you know nothing about Hugo and his OWN catalog of work, and what he can bring to Journey.
So you don't have a clue about AOR music

JERK!!

Hugo looks freakishly like Perry, and has the Perryisms down pat, but vocally, he sounds weak to me, and not that much like Perry. Jeremy, on the other hand, sounds pretty strong, a lot more like Perry sonically (Cain will be pleased) and does not mimick Perry, which is a good thing.

I should have prefaced all this by saying I don't think its a good idea at all for Journey to try and become a cover band of themselves. JSS would have been more interesting. Besides, they already have Castranovo who can sing any Journey song almost as good as Perry, when they needed the nastalgia thing.

I'm feeling woozy now... Image

Seriously, though, after watching some of those video clips on Evolution's site, I think Hugo sounds a lot more like Augeri then he does Perry...and an even thinner-sounding Augeri at that.
