Great Performance, Great Voice.

But, close your eyes, and think of that in Journey. It just won't sound right. Neal had a reason for being in SoulSirkus I guess. A band that was designed to be fronted by Jeff Scott Soto. For Journey, not so much. As much as I like Jeff, the more and more I think of it, I think he is best suited off solo and he could benefit from that more than with Journey because I believe Jeff in Journey would of been no different than an Augeri fronted band. And you can say that for ANYONE. Reality is, other than SP, noone would be able to draw the fanbase in better.

I'd kind of disagree that this isn't suited for Journey. If you fit the backing instruments with Journey's, and have the backing vocals, it wouldn't sound reasonably "Journey"-like. When they go into the harmony, it would probably sound consistent to the harmony you would maybe hear off of "Only the Young". But I *will* agree with Young and say this was a great voice and performance. I like the song alot

That is what I meant Lar, they finally get somebody with the soul and passion of Perry. I was thinking of the missed colaborations. He's a great singer, songwriter, frontman.......only thing missing was Perry's 'exact' voice. Which isn't going to happen no matter who it is. I'm still totally boggled by the stupidity of this decision. :?

I agree Krista, I am a firm believer in what goes around comes around and you reap what you sew. :) It'll be real interesting to see how this all pans out a year from now.

Did you even read Brian May's option list? It can be done, and it has been done, by other bands. A band can move on and in a different direction with a new singer and still maintain respect and a following. The problem with much of the Journey fan base is that they want Perry back so bad, they are willing to settle for an SP sound alike.

That brings tears to my eyes. In one sense, I'm glad this happened. I want to see Jeff continue to do things like this. He's just so perfect. That voice, the way he moves onstage, the passion he puts into singing. He's just awesome. It would be a waste to let all that go & just do Journey songs. If it had been a Paul Rodgers/Queen thing where there was combined efforts, then Journey would have been smart about it. But we all know they're not smart about anything. So now we all have Jeff to follow. He's a guy who will tour often, put out new albums often, take risks, do different things, & oh yeah, he cares about us. His rockers & ballads are more exciting than Journey to me now anyway. Check this out:

I could see Jeff do a Broadway gig, he's got the bod, the moves, the smile and the power to stand up night after night...
Wouldn't be a permanent thing mind you just something to get more publicity and dang he'd be good at it! There is a Queen musical too, not sure if they are only Vegas or not?

I bet there are people within the band that feel the same way, I don't believe they ALL wanted Jeff to go, no way. I bet there are some really hard feelings going on at this moment and who knows maybe there will be another departure.

Ross might be getting tired but I think Deen could do great on his own or with another band if he's healthy. I bet he's getting tired of the crap that goes on, I think he's a stand up guy, or maybe I've just bought into his interviews. :? I still think its gotta be about the money, they couldn't get a record deal or didn't want to share the windfall that is coming...

That's a great one too. I love watching the interaction with his solo band. Shows you what real brotherhood in a band is.

Man...that is such a sad song! It was one of those songs that no matter how much it would make you cry, you couldn't help but to listen to it still! Jeff knew exactly what I was feeling in that song! Yeah, it's kind of fitting for what happened.

Filmed in my 'tour bus' starring the JSS Band and various hangers on - Helena Handbasket, Hoolie (Chef Scott Solo), Tinky (Tom) and yours truly - in May 2004. Towards the end of a great tour.

Great memories.

If This Is The End is one of Jeff's best ballads.

Prophetic - Nah! Just a frigging good song.

This song could have been written exactly for this situation right now. It's tugging at my heart to listen to it & watch the clip again right now. But yep, that's what a band should be like. Jeff was just way too good for those journey-jerkoffs. Let him soar to the top w/guys who love him & respect him.

Hey you guys are posting all my favorite vids in one spot 8)

Yep, they messed up big time. But that's ok, Jeff's career is way more exciting to follow, & will be to come.

Their HUGE loss.

TWO missed opportunities

PostPosted: Mon Jun 18, 2007 9:51 am
by separate_wayz
There are TWO missed opportunities: (1) losing a fantastic frontman like JSS who can sing, write AND entertain as a frontman, and (2) doing so when much of the U.S. was focused on 'The Sopranos' finale and a Journey song figured PROMINENTLY in the episode. Most bands could only dream of having EITHER a frontman like JSS OR having one of their songs in a major tv episode.

Sad sad sad ..... such a total waste of chances.

Truth be told, I wasn't sure that JSS was the best 'fit' for Journey -- but I think he showed he could be a good trooper and sing the legacy songs, probably while hoping (or, perhaps, after having been promised) that there would be new material written and a CD released. If trade-offs had to be made, I think the ones made in bringing JSS on-board were reasonable and realistic.

I've enjoyed Journey's music -- and seeing Journey in concert, fronted by both SA and JSS -- but I will NOT pay money to see a tribute-band singer front Journey, not now, not at this point. Nothing wrong in Journey wanting to preserve their legacy, but when a band starts resembling an out-take from 'This is Spinal Tap', I stop paying attention.

Too bad for them... Jeff will be fine, its obvious he has no trouble kicking ass at anything he does. 8)
