Will Augeri Return?

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone has even considered the possibility of a return from Augeri. What if his voice healed? Did the band feel that his loyalty should be rewarded with a spot back in the band? Do you buy the comments made by Perry? Why would he care if there is a rumor of his return? hhhmmmmm

I was wondering about that myself(S.A. coming back) ...but given the comment Jon made about their legacy etc..I dunno. But then again...they did put out some CD's with him so....

God I hope not. He wasn't a good fit for Journey. Never liked him in the group.

That said, I hope he comes out with a solo album and finds musicians he has chemistry with. I preferred his tall stories material to anything he did in Journey, and I think Believe and Butterfly were two of the stronger tracks on Generations (both of which he penned and wrote the music for)

Think Robert Plant - Manic Nirvana era - not Journey

As it's late and I am still awake, I may be stretching this one, but it's what popped into my head. First I thought that maybe he felt there was just to much shit going on, that he needed to say something. Especially since his name was being thrown around so much on a site that is very popular and becomes hotter and hotter every time there is something big and bad going on.

Then I thought that he just came out of lone land to make comments on the DSB stuff. I'm not so sure if this stuff was going on and he hadn't just been 'out' speaking about the Soprano's and all that, if he would have responded.
On so many levels, there have been so many things going on with this band that he was such a huge part of, if not the hugest.

One day he is commenting on DSB and everyone is all hyped up over that, then all the shit goes down and we start going insane with every comment possible.

The 'band' is not saying shit, or saying the right shit. I commend him for speaking up at just certain moments.
Sort of ironic that he never says anything and then with something big like this, he gives us more info than anyone else if you will. You know what I mean. There's other sources out there, but something like this straight from any horeses mouth is huge.

Not sure what you mean 'buy' the comments. He is quiet for so long, I don't think he would speak up at a time to only deceive us. He can see there is already enough of that going on these past couple of years.
I do not believe he would or see anyone reason why he would finally speak on something and lie about it.

Thanks for posting the thread.Different Augueri ive never heard before. I look forward to Tall Stories II .As much as I enjoyed Steve A when he first joined Journey and until the Generations tour{and everything else} There is to much water under the bridge for him to come back, and his voice is gone. There is no way he can ever sing the dozen {I bet even for one night} He was fucked good enough, I have no desire to see it happen again.

Enjoyed the track.

Steve A won't be back -- and that's for the best. Cain and Schon made too many shitty comments after his departure -- there's no way to uncrack-the-stone on this one.

*sigh*

I agree, for the best. He sound right in his element in that track. That's a good rocking song. His voice sounds like it's healed well.

I'd buy this and I say that as a guy who didn't like Augeri in Journey. This is good stuff. He has chemistry with these guys.

No it's not, apparently from what I keep getting told. Good for Steve A.

Such as?
Jon stated that Augeri had his share of good nights and bad.
While Neal mentioned that he shared better chemistry with Jeff.
Hardly seems much worse than disparaging comments Neal has periodically made throughout Augeri's tenure.

And for those Journey fans who have been paying attention, we know Jon and Neal were actually being quite reserved.

I'm not so sure the band ever doubted his voice would eventually rebound (as Augeri's vocals were out of this world on 'Generations').
The issue probably comes down to if he can last the distance on the road.
As Jon said, right now the band needs "consistency".

Yep.
Standout. Interesting paradox given the health of his live singing voice at the time.

The music is interesting but Augeri's vocals aren't all that fantastic on that one. Of course, it's a demo so I'll be interested to hear the final results.

I hope SA kicks ass. I wish him the very best. He has been shit on enough. I apologize for any of the shit I said about him in the past.

I will make that up by going to see him live and buy his new TS II or solo stuff.

I have to say his voice sounded more suited to this material than Journey material at the time he did this. It seems to me that the power in his voice here was more in screaming than singing melodically. I wonder why people think this sounds more melodic than Jeff's previous work did. :?

I don't agree at all. At the time he joined, he was great, he was a good fit for the band. He could do the old material and new and it would have that Journey sound. However, too much touring just wrecked him and for that and abandoning him, Journey will always be on my sh*tlist.

Thanks for posting the DEMO! It's definitely not as accessible as the other TS material, however, it's a DEMO. I'm sure that the final produced version would be a lot cooler. I wonder... I would assume that this a recording from about 90-ish. Anybody know when this was done? That would explain the darker feel as that was when Grunge was rearing it's ugly head (hey, I'm from Seattle and I didn't dig grunge!). Still, it's a cool and interesting track.

I'm a big fan of Steve Augeri.

I never thought he sounded like Steve Perry and I always felt he brought Journey back from the dead (I've been a fan of Journey since before Perry entered into the picture).

Whether he performs with Journey, solo, Tall Stories or elsewhere I'm sure he will do well. :D

~Peace to all~

You can do a lot of things in a studio.

Seriously, I mean...Augeri could go in and give it all and sing one chorus on, say, FITH, and once it's copied and pasted into the other choruses in the song, that's half the tune. I thought his vocals sounded good on that album, but I don't doubt it was done piece by piece, and with a lot of ProTools help.

My guess is that the struggle to get good Augeri vocals is partially the reason the rest of the band sang tracks on that album, regardless of what they said in interviews. Augeri could've easily sang the two Deen songs, but it probably would've taken too long so they just said "fuck it, let Deen do it."
