Dave Ling on JSS's departure

Just a blurb on Ling's Diary...Speaks volumes on how Journey is perceived after this fiasco, tho.

http://www.daveling.co.uk/diary.htm

"Wednesday 13th June

Journey have sacked singer Jeff Scott Soto. Like... wow. Am I supposed to pretend to be surprised? Or upset? My own opinion is that Soto, whilst being a supreme vocalist in his own right, was the wrong man to have succeeded Steve Augeri. This development seems to confirm that viewpoint. I'm appalled and amused by the inevitable eruption of brown-nosing over at the www.melodicrock.com noticeboard, but this really confirms what a bunch of users Journey are. The words 'piss-up' and 'brewery' spring to mind."

Yea, but looking at it from a loon perspective we should be pissed.
The NB is Augeri and here we're Perry but nobody'll notice the difference and when something goes wrong, we'll end up besmirched by association.

He's a journalist who's written pieces for loads of music magazines over the years. He has his own site, so see for yourselves.

Dave Ling writes for a british mag called Classic Rock - they (fairly) recently reviewed a show with Jeff singing and were not overly impressed but gave them a big thumbs up for the monsters of rock gig that Augeri sang at. They seem to have an agenda on all sorts of people and are forever dissin Ritchie Blackmore. So much so that i stopped buying it.

Lots of music journalists/magazines and even people in general are picking on Blackmore and I really don't understand why. :?
He is a fine guitar player in my book.No one can take that away from him,no matter what.

Yeah, but the Medieval Times image is a little over the top, IMO.

Brown-nosing? What the hell? What would anyone here have to gain by kissing JSS' ass? Certainly not backstage passes to the Journey show. These are the true hardcore fans here. Damned liberal media. :D

Blackmore's a legend no matter what he does. I'm sure he'd punch them in the nose and pour beer all over them if given the chance all while playing Highway Star with the other hand!

Not real happy with this guy's opinions of Ritchie Blackmore, but this interview with Steve Perry is a pretty good read and quite telling about why he won't rejoin Journey. Interesting stuff.

True, but did you read the end of the article? Steve said the guys were "doing what they have to do...but they aren't thinking of the legacy." He knew this 13 years ago and the rest of us are finding it out now. I just thought that was kind of ironic in light of recent events.

Thank you! I worship Blackmore - and you gotta respect him for doing what he wants and not what record companies and promoters want him to do. Find "Made In Japan" and the solo in Highway Star. that is ROCK AND FUCKIN ROLL man - all of it said with eloquence fire and passion.
