Why Not Re-Hire Augeri?

Okay, I have to ask...

Loads of people have stated that Augeri's voice is back right? Well if this is the case, why wouldn't Journey just allow him to return? If Steve Perry doesn't return, wouldn't rehiring Augeri be the RIGHT and HONERABLE thing to do? Particularly since the man gave Journey and the fans eight years of his life to the cause and was also responsible for Journey being allowed to continue as it has. Don’t they owe him? It would seem to me that having Augeri return would be the only way they could repair the negative image thay have created with the fans surrounding the JSS situation. The only other way would be to work it out with Perry.

Your thoughts….

Have you heard the boots from even before he started having voice problems? The only consistently decent performances from him were on the first couple of tours. From about 2002 on, he had more bad nights than good from all accounts.

Perhaps they should have taken a year off during this time to allow his voice to rest. By 2002, they had already been on the road for 5 years.

What did they tour 5-6 months out of the year. If his voice couldn't recover in the remaining time then 18 months isn't going to help it either. CPC's right Augeri's now known to not be able to handle the catalogue. Augeri's voice would be back in the dumper after the first night.

The real question here is would Augeri want to come back. I ask that simply because of the way the dwarf and his asshole buddy threw him under the bus with regards to tapegate. Yes the guy used tapes, no question. But the other members of this band were party to that also yet they all deny any knowledge or involvement in it. Two members with 25 plus years in this group expect us blindly loyal fans to believe that a guy with 8 years pulled this off without their knowledge. I don't think so.

If Augeri was dumb enough to return, any remaining respect I had for the dude would be long gone. He cannot possibly be dumb enough to return for another ass rape at the hands of the fro and Friga.

Unfortunately, prior to seeing Journey with JSS this past year, I had not seen them with Augeri since the "Under the Radar Tour", but from 1998 - 2002 my wife and I had seen many many of there shows including to the show just after the DVD was recorded. They were all good and yes Steve had good night and bad ones, but he also had many that were spot on. But Augeri isn't Steve Perry, so I never expected him to sound as good as Steve Perry on the older songs.

From what I remember, he was excellent for the first two shows at which I saw him, in '98 and '99. He was pretty good at the "Arrival" show, too. I don't remember much of the "Classic Rock's Main Event" tour since I was probably sufficiently deaf after sitting through REO's and Styx's show before Journey came on. However, he was pretty bad at the Indianapolis show on the 30th anniversary tour in '05.

I would have swore that either Deano or Andrew said they did,but Augeri turned them down.

Andrew was reffering to Perry. Smart man. Very Smart.

RPM- I know the difference between Andrew saying Perry was not coming back. Perry finally posted it through Fan Asylum. This was in regards to Augeri. Maybe I can find it. It was after Jeff was let go.

Why not?

Because he just didn't quite cut it. (I was going to say he sucked but I didn't out of deference to NIG and Joe13)

I thought he did in the Free Per View thing I watched. Really bad on the classic. REALLY bad. :(

His voice might be coming back, but as much as I'd like to see him succeed JSS and come back, I think a recipe for vocal disaster would be for him to sing shows at the rate Journey usually plays them again.
I think it'b borrowed time.

Andrew has clarified this repeatedly.
He was referring to Perry.

Andrew wrote:I was wrongly quoted here....PERRY folks....PERRY. The band are not returning to any old singer.

Not that there hasn't been any lately, but that would be way too much more added drama. Don't you think?

Although I would love to here Steve A sing again, and I do, but not with Journey. They fucked him even worse than Jeff.He was in this band for 8 years. There is no way to even imagine what he went through. They took a good man near the end of his prime and either let him, encouraged him, or made him ,fucking ruin his voice.Either one of the three choices doesnt want me to see it happen again, plus the way they treated him and Jeff once they were through with them both. I look forward to Tall Stories 2.and anything Steve A wants to put out.I hope he can still sing. He was really good for Journey for awile, thats what made me a Journey fan again. It dosent mean a shit to the band, but I had some good times with Journey since 2001. I hope Steve gets his voice backand puts out a cool solo Cd.Ill buy it in a second!!

Why has Augeri been so silent? Has he spoken out to any of the fans since his demise?

Who are you to correct Sherrie? You actually attended shows those two tours, what do you know?

I have been lucky enough to see Journey with all 3 frontmen (Perry, Augeri & Soto). I have attended almost all of Journey's concerts (with Augeri) in Florida (I think I missed one several years ago) and have never been disappointed with any of the shows.

My only regret was not being able to see Journey before Perry started. That would have been icing on the cake for me. But, I was lucky enough to catch Greg Rollie when he performed in the Tampa Bay area last summer with his own band.

I wouldn't mind seeing Augeri with Journey again but after all the trampling he got last summer for what the WHOLE band did, I would be surprised to see him stand on stage with them again.

~Peace to all~

No More tails,

Augeri is not allowed to comment. Part of his settlement with the band. That ends in October. His solo work and new tall stories will be coming out at that point if I remember what I read correctly. Again, the guy would be a fool to even consider rejoining this band after the ass rape they laid on him.

Just to clarify, I agree, I don't think he'd want to come back. Nor would they bring him back due to inconsistency the last few tours, the possibility of further voice problems, and the inevitable questions regarding tapegate being brought up in interviews, etc. I hope we do hear his side of the story, but would be surprised if he gets into the tape issue.

Pretty much.

He wasn't lucky enough to have a "Marcel" beside him when it happened. :|

I understand that he might not be able to comment specifically about Journey, but why is he not commenting about his future or connecting with fans in such a way that would thank them for there past support without violating his Journey agreements. Seems odd doesn't it? Even JSS hasn't been dead silent.

You're talking about two entirely different circumstances. JSS was just plain fired (as fucked up as that is) Augeri on the other hand, having the ability to speak freely could incriminate the entire band in tapegate.

Understandable, but my point is that he could speak freely about his current and future non-Journey related circumstances. Why not do that? Why not a thank you to the fans that supported him? Again, he doesn't have to go into details of the past.

I suppose he could do that but he is/was probably monumentally embarrassed by the whole thing. I know I would be! Besides that you know as well as everyone else that if he agreed to do interviews, the subject is gonna come up. Why put yourself in that situation?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME..?

Here's why they should've never hired Augeri in the first place!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cf4xsAv5UE

Here's the guy they had the chance to hire but didn't (he's heavy as hell here, but you can tell by his vocal quality that he has the chords to pull off the dirty dozen). Neal was on record as saying that West even sounded more like Perry at the audition than Augeri. In and interview with West, he mentioned that Augeri lost his voice AT his audition and they still picked him. Go figure:
