GH live. However, it's all just re-run material at this point in time. I'm tired of re-runs.

i think captured is better.dixie highway is a new song that was on this release thats pretty good and you never hear that song spoken about hardly.the party's over was another song but it was a studio release and not a live song.i favor the first side myself.i've always liked the live versions of just the same way and stay awhile better than the studio versions.same with line of fire and wheel in the sky.some songs sound better in a live setting.they have more punch and energy.

Good point's about DH and Party's Over. I have Captured on vinyl, however, and it seems "sped up." Nevertheless, it's all material that has been played a zillion times live already.

I guess I have a question for Journey.. Why in the heck should I pay another nickel to see the same 'ol, same 'ol ... AGAIN?

i like when the setlist is shaen up and rare stuff like patiently, winds of march, mother father or anything off of the first three albums is played.i think they did this in 2005.too bad most of the people that go want to hear the same 'ol like you said.i'll kill myself if i have to hear open arms or lovin touchin one more time.i like those songs but that could stick a few gems in there to make it memorable.

Captured is so good a live album it is absolutely scary.
the perfect live sampling of Inf/Ev/Dep and the exquisite perry-penned studio track TPO at the end.

It's a tour de force.

GH Live, I love After The Fall and Sep Ways and DSB are good too.

Captured is TONS better. As far as Live albums, GH Live blows. You can't hear the crowd at all. There is good mucisianship, but the thing lacks any excitement.

Yep, I'm not hung up on crowd energy, Deano I know that is a very important factor for you at concerts or live albums but I will admit the Captured crowds were raucus and INTO it. Louder than hell.

Let me get this straight. You are not into crowds and excitement for a live album? Why the Hell would you buy a live album then? Dude, you have me tossing and turning late at night, trying to figure you the fuck out.

I want to hear the crowd cheering, but for YOU I know you like to actually hear crowds take over a song and sing....not a big fan of that.

But Captured is way more pumped than GHL crowdwise.

"Captured" lives up to its name in relation to "Greatest Hits Live"...Easily.

Captured! is way better in my opinion and for pretty much the same reasons you mentioned above. Although the one that stands out for me on GH Live, is After The Fall. GREAT live version.

GH Live as all the excitement of watching Senior Golf on TV. The musicianship is great, but it's not only lifeless, but completely devoid of any context or flow. In the pre-Ipod days I used to listen to it in my car sometimes just because it had a much better track selection than the real GH album, but I haven't spun it in ages.

If I want to hear that lineup live, the Houston CD is a much better representation...A real "GH Live" release should've been two discs, with disc one being the Houston show and then disc two could've been a compilation of Frontiers and ROR songs from those tours, as well as any earlier songs from other performances that didn't make it to Captured or Houston. That would've been a cool release.

i think captured and escape show the band at their peak.when cain got in they became much more commercial than when rollie was in the group.

Captured all the way on this one. Crisp, clean production and a nice setlist. Still wish Patiently and Precious Time were on there though.
GHLive is good...but the production is SO fuckin' sloppy. I like the setlist on this one too. Little more "recent".
Good to have 'em both but Captured wins by a mile.

Totally agree...Captured actually feels like a concert. GHL feels like a bunch of different live tracks slapped together, with little emotion.

EXACTLY. Go from Houston to Tokyo to wherever the hell else GHL was recorded and you can actually TELL the difference. I think Captured had a couple of different cities aside from Detroit (I might be wrong), but you can't tell. It's just flows PERFECTLY.

No question- Captured! Nothing touches the combined vocals of Rolie and Perry. Gregg Rolie sounds like velvet til this day. Love him!

Captured. But I do like Perry's intro to LTS on the GH live though.

I like it too. Also...the solo on WCN and the "new" twist on WITS after the initial solo.

Captured was my first Journey album in 1984 (I was late to the game) after I bought a brand new stereo. It sealed the deal and I had the rest of the (then) catalog within two weeks. Thank god they did the ROR tour or I'd have never seen them with SP. As it stands, I've seen them with everyone but Fleischman.

CAPTURED is not only the better of the two, it's one of the best live albums of that era.

EVERYTHING about Captured is better than GH Live.

First, I HATE the title "Greatest Hits". Absolutely no creativity. CAPTURED represents EXACTLY what the recording represents: JOURNEY captured LIVE with a LIVE audience that you can HEAR and actually SENSE are there and into it. Cheap Trick's Live At Budokan does very much the same thing.

The fireworks at the end of GH is anti-climactic. I think they wanted to create what it was like to be at a JOURNEY concert - end it with a bang however the tracklist spans a few years and it has such different tones from song to song that the idea of being at A concert is lost entirely.

The packaging of CAPTURED is far superior. Great photos and a much more appropriate cover with the scarab being "captured" in the always present sphere. It's cool how they put the band members in the sphere, too.

UGH. GH Live is a mess. 'nuff said.

i'm glad they documented this when they did.they still have that raw edge but its right before they exploded with a new keyboard player and more radio friendly sound.you know i would kill to have captured as a concert on DVD.

I think that GHL was an afterthought. A way for Sony to capitalize on the success and interest after TBF. Captured was recorded with the intent of putting out a live album, as many groups were doing at the time. GHL was a compilation of recordings which were not necessarily made for a specific live album, thus the inconsistency in moving from track to track.

Captured shows the band on the next to the last step on the way up to the Escape success. After that, they plateaued and fell to where things are today.
