OT: Idiot drivers rant

I drive mostly highway to work, about 32 miles one way, 35-40 minutes in the morning and anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour after work. These kind of people piss me off...
  • Tailgaters...If you tailgate me and I'm by myself, I WILL spike my brakes, so be prepared. If I'm in the left lane passing someone and ALREADY doing at least 10-15 MPH over the speed limit, there's nowhere you can be going that is important enough to be such an asshole. Most likely, you're a dumbass who's trying to get to work on time when you probably don't want to be there in the first place.
  • People cutting me off...Just because you put your turn signal on as you are cutting me off does not mean that you are entitled to do so. If you kindly signal and I am not already passing you, I will most likely let you in.
  • People who pass on the right...Unless I am going insanely slow in the left lane (which I never do), you are an impatient moron who should end up in the ditch and waiting for AAA to come and tow your ass to the nearest body shop.
  • Slow drivers in the left lane...If you are in the left lane, you better be passing someone and going AT LEAST 5 MPH over the speed limit unless there's a cop behind you.
  • People who don't know what a turn signal is...Are you that lazy that you can't simply flip the turn signal on as you change lanes, turn a corner, or merge onto the highway?
  • People who think a stop sign is merely a suggestion...It isn't going to kill you to at least ALMOST come to a stop. Use the frickin' brake. That's what it's there for.
  • Slow drivers in general...Unless the roads are treacherous, AT LEAST DRIVE THE FREAKIN' SPEED LIMIT. If not, get the heck out of the way.

Also, my wife called me this morning and told me that some moron drove through the median of a divided highway and drove right in front of her, causing her to swerve into another lane to avoid plowing his ass. Idiots! Image

Please discuss amongst yourselves. Have a nice day.

This past weekend, I drove through 6 states getting to see Frontiers. I swear, in each state I encountered something that was on your rant list, Dave. The best was on 81, which is a 2 lane interstate, getting caught behind 2 RV's, apparently "drag racing", driving neck in neck, at a top speed of 50 mph, killing anyone's hopes of going any faster for about 5 miles. If anyone saw a car w/NY plates on 81 over the weekend, driver's arms wildly waving in the car and cursing non stop, that was probably me.

It's reassuring to know that incompetent drivers exist the world over.

Des Moines is KING of bad driving! I moslty blame Monker.. and old guys in their hats, plus little old ladies that can barely see over the steering wheel...then you have the guy who is eating, reading his newspaper and calling on his cell, while smoking---driving with his knees... or the women who are putting on their makeup on their cell and driving...

people who obviously have one brain cell in their head if they are lucky when it comes to driving just shouldn't be allowed to...But Somehow that seems to be a loophole in the restrictions on who can and can't drive that isn't covered...

We have so many new things going up around here where I live all the time-movie theatres, restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, etc...
Along with these, new ways to get to them. Most of these are two lanes. Not marked as such, but wide enough to know, and by now, most should know. Especially when there are two sides-each with two lanes, going different directions.
One morning, no one was out at all. Very early on a Sunday morning. I am driving on one of these new roads and this dude was driving on my side! Even though he was actually in his own lane so to speak. What was crazy though was that his side, seperated by like a small curbed/grassed median was going right along our side of the road. Damn good thing I am always aware and he was at least in the other lane.
This proved to me that people did at least know there was two lanes to drive on each side....which tickes me off when people do this on the same road. They will be driving on the left side of the road and I will be driving on the right side. They will decide to go right and just cut acroos right in front of you and make a right!
Loved what you said about people thinking just because they turn there signal on they can go in front of you too! One day a car was sort of riding next to me, but not so much to where I couldn't see them turn their signal on. They were so close that I dicided to just slow and let them go just in case. I also assumed they would be making the next turn since they did it so sudden. Nope. Got in front of me, no one was even in the left lane with them riding their ass to get over. They got in front of me and went really slow. Another came up beside in the left lane and rode next to me. We were the only three cars. For just a minute I got spooked thinking they were together. Only the three of us, two lanes and I couldn't go anywhere.
How about when you go to like let someone pull out of a gas station, to only find out they was to turn left, they stop right in front of you until they can turn. You let them out thinking they will turn in front of you and go right.
I don't do much freeway driving, and not like I am letting any of the stupid freeway folk off the hook by saying this, but you expect some accident on the freeway/highway. Some of the stupid accidents I have seen on side roads or heard my friends involved with should in no way ever have happened.

Either I'm getting impatient in my old age or people here are driving worse than ever. I guess it dont help matters that everyone

Good one. Exactly. Why don't people understand that you turn on your turn signal first, THEN break! This alone would avoid a lot of side street stupid accidents.
Turn on the damn signal so people have an idea what you are going to BE doing, then break.
Speaking of turn signals, I never anymore trust other people when they have their turn signal on and them not actually doing what that turn signal says they should be doing. Let the car go/turn/not turn, whatever, then I will go.
Some people were f'n around and my nephew went thinking they were turning because their blinker said they were, and they didn't. Didn't end up good. Not worth it to rush and go. Leave time to go where you gotta' get too.
Whoever commented on mom's in suv's was right on. They are some of the craziest worse drivers out there. I think they feel invisible. Little do they know they are driving in one of the worse vehicles they can have their children in, especially for rollovers.

Besides al the things on your list,I hate it when the green light comes up and the driver behind me honks like a desperate several times.
Wtf does he want me to do?,take off like a Boeing in 1 second?

My feeling is that in the last 5 years, drivers got worse.
The lack of responsibility and the respect towards the others in traffic have increased.

The new young drivers have gotten worse too. This girl looked young enough to just have gotten her license. She was eating, on her cell phone and speeding past all of us in a residential/business area like a mad person.

Exactly too, give me at least two seconds at a red light to get going..

I was leaving the grocery store and was on the road on the way to the main road, this car was pulling out. Should have stopped first, but didn't. I had to swerve to miss them. When I caught up to them, just by chance, he looked over at me, laughed and started to swerve his car around like I had too. He looked like a total idiot or I would have gone after him or flipped him off, and I am not usually like that. I didn't have my cell right then though, or I would have called the police because he looked like a real creepy idiot. Let's put it this way, he started acting like I pulled out in front of him.
That's another crazy thing, someone does something really wrong, you react..jerk the car/honk and they look at you like you messed up and they are going to come after you!

One thing I cannot stand are the people who are too impatient to stay in the right lane when they HAVE to turn right. Instead, these people will get in the left lane to pass as much of the traffic (which is usually heavily congested) on the right, then at the stop light, they'll throw on their signal and will want to wedge their car back into the right lane to turn right. To me, this just slows traffic down that much worse. I can see passing a slow car if he/she/it is barely going the speed limit and there isn't anybody in front of the car for several car lengths, but when the person gets into the left lane knowing good and well there is no opening to get back into the right lane, why do it? Chances are, you're not going to save THAT much time.

The drivers with the best attitude in the world are Italians, they simply don't give a fuck...I mean not one single Italian gives a fuck about road safety and as for lights...Red and Green mean the same thing over there...GO and as fast as you can... 8)

I would echo that very sentiment of the Portuguese. Lovely country perry's motherland, but driving is not for the skittish over there.

people could give a dogshit about anybody else on those deathtraps they call roads.

This made me think about the one's who are in the right lane behind you. Move over behind you into the left lane, then come back in front of you to turn right, right then!

How about being in the right lane, someone pulling out in front of you, when they shouldn't have anyway right then..anyway, they pull out in front of you, cutting you off, only to make the next quick right!

Yes, I live around a ton of idiots. Most of these stories I have told can happen within one day, make that one hour, just running errands within 2 miles of me. We have a ton of places to eat/shop/get gas/movies/etc..within even a mile.
If I wasn't still to sick to walk that much, and didn't pick up so much when I do run errands, I would just walk.

You've hit the nail on the head with Portugal it's the roads that play a major factor. Talking of Perry's Motherland, two years ago I listenned to plenty of Perry's long distant relatives playing those bamboo pipes and I kid you not, most of them looked like Perry. I spent two fuckin' weeks asking them each in turn...is that you Steve

I know what you mean, my good man. There were at least 3 guys I mistakenly booed when I saw them in the streets. Had to sheepishly apologize saying, "Thought you were someone else."
