Rock Star: Journey

Maybe this is a viable option now things have descended into....whatever you call this.

I do know that producers of the Rock Star show wanted Journey for Season 2. Obviously it never happened. Season 2 bombed and the show is off-air.

Journey in the drivers seat could put it back on air. They'd have to change the modern rock slant of the show, but I'd be open to this as an option.

For the record - this thread is 100% pure speculation! There are no plans for this a this in reality at this point in time and I don't expect there to be so.

The last one was rigged, would Journey also rig theirs?

I loved Rockstar INXS.. the last one, Supernova?? Not so much.
I think it would be kind of interesting to watch and it would actually give them some publicity.
Although, I just dont see Friga going for it.

Dude, you're not buying this Arnel shit are you? He will NEVER sing for Journey...period. This is 100% bullshit. Rock Star Journey would be cool...only if Perry consented. And I have a funny feeling we'll be hearing from him soon.

I just can't get the vision of Gilby Clarke out of my head. You'd think by his behavior on the show that he were Mozart....not Heart's one-time touring geeetar guy

I think it would work only if Perry were dead. The perception is that he's the "no-brainer" answer so why even debate about it let alone have a contest? It's funny because someone mentioned this to me yesterday at work (as I'm the resident JOURNEY fan). I gave the same answer.

As long as Perry lives and breathes he's going to be perceived as THE answer. And there's a lot of merit to that. He is the answer. But he's not the probable answer.

I think it's funny and rather sad that one of the biggest bands of all time have to resort to a reality TV show to find a singer...IF it happens.

Classic.

One day I was combing the archives looking for damning posts I needed for a recent brawl and saw about 3 of these same prophecy posts from you all spread out like at least 4-5 months apart.

It's a slippery slope to becoming a mini Linus, my good man.

Well, he is right. We do hear from Perry twice a year on FanAsylum.

I agree Andrew that it may not be a bad option, IF the band wanted to create some new music. I wouldn't like it as a way to find a Perry sound-alike. Why bother? I also don't want to hear from everyone who knows I'm a Journey fan: "Why don't they just get Steve Perry back?"

If journey did do this it would be rigged ahead of time.

They would choose their singer and then go through the motions.

I can't see Neal and Jon having a serious, intellegent and more to the point HONEST discussion about their plans live on TV.

Agreed, like they would ever let the fans choose their new frontman! They obviously didn't give a shit how much the fans liked the last one. :(

it would be cool... we here would hate it, but the fans who have no clue would love it, it would be a HIGH rated show---I could see Randy Jackson as one of the guys on the panel, just because his knowledge of talent!!

At this point, we're down JSS, Jeremey looks shit out of luck....I guess I can actually say I wouldn't be opposed.

Thats actually part of the problem, I think.

I suspect Perry would mount such a legal blockade for something like Rockstar:Journey that it would be 2-3 years of legal fighting before it ever became a reality. With that kind of Legal fight, Neal would have to retain 3/4 of the lawyers in san francisco......granted, he probably has em all on retainer for domestic issues anyway...

It would never, ever happen...Neal and Friga doing something publicly that the fans could see? Unlikely...

But the competition wouldn't be "who's the best guy to take Journey into the future as a viable band." It'd be "who can sound the most like Steve Perry to sing the dirty dozen every night?"

I mean, if the band wants to go that way, fine, but it wouldn't make for very interesting television, methinks.

I never saw the INXS one but being from Chicago, I'm familiar with Marty Casey, who has a good voice but sounds nothing like Hutchence. So there was probably a bit of suspense in that INXS could've taken a bold move and picked a singer that would've brought a different vibe to the band's music....but they picked the guy that sounded just like their old singer. Oh well.

Awww, I miss Hutchence. Found an old INXS boot (they definately had some great tunes) and since I never got the chance to see them LIVE, it's great! :)

Agreed.
I had the pleasure of checking them on the Elegantly Wasted tour 2 months almost to the day before Hutchence checked out it was unreal. Phenomenal.

who knew what was brewing under the surface?

Wouldn't happen. Dave's prettier then both of them, and that would drive Friga/Fro crazy.

At this point, Rockstar:Journey would be a brilliant idea.

They have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Totally agree. IF they ever had one ounce of credibility in their sorry ass lives, it's now gone. The Dirty Dozen is like a retreaded old tire, ready to have a blowout. Those fools can't see the forest for the trees. Not to mention the fact that they have zero business acumen.
