the history of guitar oriented music is very interesting.. from amazing jazz players to the blues players of the 30's and 40's...

... i think bill haley was one of the first guys that "pushed" rock n roll through to a mainstream crowd.. rock around the clock might the beginning of the sounds as we know them..buddy took it even further..

rock around the clock by bill haley would be my choice.elvis was like the first real full blown star but i definitely agree that rock around the clock was it.it was released once and didn't do too well and then when the movie come out a while later it was re-released and did big on the charts.

Yep, I think it was "Rock Around the Clock" from the movie "Blackboard Jungle" in 1955 - there may have been precursors, but for me that marks the beginning. And I wasn't even born for two more years! :D

Rock Around The Clock is widely regarded as the first RNR song...but Bill Haley actually had a modest hit 3 years early with a similar sounding song. It just never got the exposure RATC did...

You may be right. I remember Bill Haley and the Comets, I think, but Elvis pushed everyone off the music scene. The funny thing is I was never a huge Elvis fan or Beatles, but I knew they changed music forever.
