The Kansas thread spurned this. If you had to choose ONE OF THESE as the most underrated album of all time, which would you choose?

Grace Under Pressure by Rush. Funny that you put that in the poll 'cause #1 that's the album that got me into Rush and #2 I've been listening to it quite a bit lately. Especially Afterimage.

Kansas ~ In the Spirit of Things

Walsh still sounded good here and Steve Morse's playing was turned up a notch from the previous album "Power". The only let-down is the preponderance of outside songwriters.

I think GUP is one of Rush's best albums. It gets unfairly criticized (In the Jump the Shark book it was what made Rush jump the shark). Red Sector A is some of the best Rush has to offer.

GUP is a good album but I think it's a step down from most of their other albums.

Some of 'em yea....but Signals was crap compared to P/G. IMO

Nah...I like "Signals" far better. Subdivisions, The Analog Kid, Digital Man, and New World Man are all great tunes. Also, The Weapon and Losing It are extremely underrated.

GUP does have great cover art, though. I've had that as my desktop at work for quite awhile now. Goes very well with Windows XP's standard silver theme.

Some good albums on that list.

To me the most underated album of alltime is Waysted - Save Your Prayers with Danny Vaughtn on vocals. Just a gem from start to finish and almost no one has heard it. Magnum - Wings of Heaven is another one nobody in the U.S. has heard. If you like Asia - chances are you'd dig Magnum.

I like Aura a little better than Arena, but not by much. Silent Nation was also a good Payne led Asia effort.

I'll take "In The Spirit of Things" from this list. I liked that record as well as "Power". Silhouettes in Disguise as a very heavy track for Kansas on that one.

I'm a big fan of the Payne era. Arena, I thought was a great conceptual piece with all these mythic overtones and a great prog rock centerpiece (Day Before the War). Silent Nation WAS great. I am enjoying the Asia reunion, but I think its a shame Geoff Downes kind of acts like the Payne era never existed.

I gotta say, Higgy, that you forgot one that should've been mentioned. Yes - Union. I don't know how many other people like it...but I thought it was a rather good album. Granted, I wouldn't have picked it over GUP, but it's still a good album in my eyes. Shock To The System is one of my favorite Yes tracks.

Yeah, for all the shit that album gets, it really is good. I guess they were asking for it with a line-up that big, but musically its a great album. Going on with that, I should have also put the Anderson, Buford, Wakeman, Howe album on there. That album is so much better than the other '80s Yes albums.

Loved the Union album and that was a fun tour for Yes.

Higgy, I saw Payne and Downes do an Asia acoustic show in Pitman, NJ and it was absolutely amazing!

I remember that they did that acoustic show. I wish I had been able to see it. The Silent Nation line up minus Downes formed a band called GPS and recorded an album of material that would have been the follow up to Silent Nation.

The most underrated album all time is Into the Fire . by B Adams Ask General Andrew. A true classic.

The waysted cd is a great one and yes hardly made radar levels----i didnt think any of the above albums were underated none of them were gems, some had some good music on them, but rush , styx ,jefferson starship, asia etc all had much better albums prior to the ones above--journey as well.

Dean - Into the Fire is a great record. I guess it can be underated, but it did sell 2 mil.

Yeah, The Analog Kid kicks major ass. I love the way they go into the guitar solo. I always crank that as loud as possible.

I'm not familiar with most of them choices so
I had to go with Raised On Radio, I liked that album.
The title track still gets me rockin.

Didnt that ELP album have the tune "Touch and Go"? If so, that is such a GREAT song and definetly gets my vote! Ive got that keyboard hook in my mind right now!!!

Journey got the most votes but not one person mentioned it except Moonie or said they voted for it.

Yes - Touch and Go was from that album. I voted for the ELP record too. It blew me away back in 1986 but even other ELP fans didn't seem to get it for some reason. It's the most epic and grand sounding record of the 80s....and Miracle in particular is right up there with the early 70s classics.

Raised On Radio gets my vote!
