This is absolutely devestating for this small city....the entire city is in shock today. The biggest and oldest department store in the state, right in the middle of of city, was completely destroyed last night and the fire is still not completely out :(

Holy shit, Andrew, I have been in this place. I definitely knew the building that's on fire. I stood shore patrol and walked around this building during my years in the US Navy. This is terrible. I missed Hobart, bigtime. Beautiful city, hospitable people, and a very laid back town. Sorry to hear and read this.

I hate to see those beautiful old historic buildings destroyed by whatever means, but a fire like that damages so much more than the building where it happens.

It's nice to see that Hobart still even had a thriving major dept. store in it's historic downtown area. Over here they're becoming a thing of the past. They're all mostly in malls in the suburbs or have been closed down by competition from big box stores.

The blonde was last night. Sorry about not posting it. Today they have a brunette lady doing the report. She is only on for a minute or so...........

Looking bad. Half the city is still closed and more than a dozen other small shops are damaged.
200+ people without a job to go to this Monday and a damage bill looking upwards of $60mil.

That's horrible. But you Aussies are tough, I'm sure you'll recover beautifully.
