Cant decide which is worse

Hello Everyone. I am a constant reader of this forum but a first time poster. Please be gentle :)
Quick summation of my interest in Journey: Liked their music in the 70's and 80's. Didn't really pay much attention to them until getting free tickets to see them live in Atlanta with Steve A. Left the concert feeling that Steve Perry had not only been replaced, but replaced with a TERRIFIC singer. Totally got me interested . Saw them again in Atlanta with JSS, and was even more psyched. Grabbed a couple of girlfriends and we headed to House of Blues in Orlando for a girls getaway weekend with great music. Had a blast, concert was unforgettable, and felt like a teenager again. Couldn't wait until something new came out after their show in Virginia. Kept checking this site and the Journey Boards for any mention of a new CD. Then blam...Jeff is gone. I was sure Jeff was the one that wanted out. After all, such a great talent, a true front man and showman. But after reading Jeff's blog, it was evident that he got royally screwed.
I am left with such sad feelings about this band. I am upset with myself for not paying more attention to them in the earlier days. Just when I get turned on to them...
Good Luck to Arnel or whoever ends up being the singer. But I am done . What are the chances that I would love a 4th singer. Just about zero I am guessing. At this point I am not sure which is worse...no more Journey, or a Journey with a singer that cant cut it.

Well, hmmm, if you plan on sticking around then WELCOME PENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How could you have been a fan in the 70's and 80's and never caught a concert with them?! I feel for you. Those were awesome shows.

Don't want to sour the welcome, ... but if you're done, why posting for the first time now?

Good question Stone Cold. What I was trying to say is that I am done with buying the tickets, done with getting all psyched out just waiting for concert day, done with waiting for new music. I am hoping that some of the truly dedicated fans get the dirty dozen sung to them again live, with a great singer. But I really doubt it.

No doubt about it -> Dirty Dozen forever.

Regardless of who they have up there, as George Constanza might say it:

It's Dirty Dozen baby!

Why not hold your decision until you witness Journey with Arnel? Who knows, he may blow your socks off as JSS and SA did. From what Ive heard of him he is very impressive-has a GREAT voice. And he seems like a VERY nice guy, very fan friendly. I find it hard to believe you are really done because if you felt this strong then curiosity wouldnt have brought you to this board.

tsk, tsk, tsk-its a good thing you are not Journey's manager or they would have been on the "fair circuit" after SP left.

They have already been playing fairs. I saw them at the Kansas State Fair with Augeri. Are thy dropping down to county fairs now?

Its all about the music! As long as Journey has a decent singer, this band will live on forever.

So, until you got free tix to an Augeri show, Journey could have had half a dozen singers for all you knew. But you liked Augeri, and you liked Soto. All you have to do now is forget them once again and wait for more free tix. Then you start liking them all over again and go have another girlfriends weekend. Keep following this pattern. Journey may well have a dozen new singers before it's all over...if it's ever over. They're not done. You're not done.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

late~

Lather repeat??

They may have been playing fairs but I can tell you theyve played a couple of large venues around Atlanta(Music MidTown Festival, a multi day event that features numerous bands and HiFBuys Ampitheatre with Def Leppard which also hosts very large successful tours) Both of these with and without Steve Augeri and after Steve Perry. Theyve played House Of Blues, Las Vegas, and the list goes on and on. I know theyve played at some large Theme Parks also, the same ones that hosted Brooks and Dunn(last year), Rascall Flatts(2005), Backsteet Boys in their prime, and of course the old favorites like Foreigner and REO. If they throw in some fairs that is probably alright because they know bigger tickets will be waiting as well.

I am not sure what some fans think this band should be. There is no way they were going to be on top again even with JSS. The music industry and Radio are not going to let it happen.

So they may play some fairs. I have seen Night Ranger, Doobie Bros, Huey Lewis, Y&T, Ted Nugent, 38 special, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar, Heart, and most recently Tesla at county or state fairs. These bands were Journey's peers back in the day and they still are now. I have actually been pleasantly surprised that Journey has been able to fill amphitheaters as a headliner the years prior to the DL shows of last summer. I am just glad that I have opportunities to hear the music and bands I enjoy in a live setting still.

The only thing I think we will be losing out on is new CDs. And as a fan, I am bummed about that. I really did like Arrival alot; and Red13 and Gens I felt were pretty good also. I know many here did not like Gens at all. All opinion. But to me, they are all better than most of what is played on the radio these days.

As a live act, I think they will continue to do fine for at least the next 2 go arounds. And after that, who knows. They are all getting older, and the only one who I think is inlove with the road is Neal. I am sure Ross has made his money back, Jon I am sure is financially set, Deen can do what he wants (move on or retire) as he is the youngest. And any singer that joins this band that can pull off the set gets nothing but a higher profile in the business, a decent paycheck, and good boost for their resume.

That's all good and well, and I think you are right. I just hope said singer (s) think of it in those terms and not something more than it is. If they do, then they'll be fine.
