Cool Augerie era Journey video-Separate ways

Hey, Just saw this video online, and thought it was pretty damn cool! I haven't seen this one before, but I think it was from Augerie's first year at the mic. I saw one of their first shows of his first year with the band, and this was very close to the performance I saw the 1st time! He's out of pitch during the first part of the song, but later picks it up. The 1st show I saw with Augerie though, had Jonathan with hair down to his waist!!! I think this show was soon after. I was worried from that 1st concert I saw with them, because Augerie's pitch was WAY off!!! The later shows definitely improved (and no, I'm not talking about when he was lippin'!). He did a great job for them for several years, before his voice gave out! Let me know what you think.

That is really fun to watch - Jon looks relaxed and like he is having a great time. Neal looks ticked off and not at all like he is enjoying the moment. I'm not much of a drummer watcher, but Deen is goin' all out and Augeri looks great. And they all look so young - nine years is a long time.

I agree!! Thanks God he went back to using the Les Paul's again.I am not a big fan of the PRS tone!!

I also agree Auggie did and admirable job during his tenure.I saw them at least twice on every tour they did and always had a blast at the shows.

Gi Jim Thanks for posting it really was good. The look of S.A.at the time era was alot more than appealing than what it was in years to come.

the guy who posted this video referes to 90 minutes of footage, yet I've only ever seen 3 songs from this show. Anybody have any ideas where one could find the rest of the missing footage?

You could pm or leave a message for him here or on YouTube, he used to frequent this board a lot...can't remember his name something Mac... He's a Paul McCartney impersonator, nice guy.

Respectfully, I just don't get anything out of watching Augeri.

I know a lot of people out there loved the guy, but he never struck that chord in me that said "This guy fits these songs".

I honestly don't see the attraction to Augeri. He never had the vocal chops for Journey and this clip confirms it all the more. Hearing this clip shows me what a huge step up Arnel is from the Augeri era. He might not have soul or stage presence, but at least he has solid technical vocal skills.

I happen to like the video and like Augeri, but after reading the two previous posts....those who don't like SA will find reasons not to like him and will post in any thread they can, and those who liked him will do the same. It is what it is. No singer, with the exception of a very few out there ever live up to the person they are replacing because they aren't that person. Perry is an amazing singer, wish I could have seen him live with Journey, but I never left a Journey show fronted by Augeri disappointed, and neither did 95% of the rest of the crowd.

Clearly you didn't see them on the generations tour... When Augeri couldn't hold a note in pitch. A majority of the people around me at the concert were wincing with every off note.

And no, I didn't come in here to bash Augeri. I came in here to check out 'the cool clip'. I gave it a view and then drew the same conclusion I have from every other time I've seen Augeri singing Journey songs, which is: HE'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO PULL IT OFF

Nice guy? Sure. Qualified to front Journey? Never and he never should have gotten past the audition rounds.

Other than the "Generations" tour, he was definitely good enough. I saw them four times previous to that show and he was always anywhere from good to excellent, especially the first two shows.

I think you and I have always differed in our standards for what's 'good enough'. Perry, Soto, Eric Martin, even John West is my good enough. Augeri isn't in their league.

Would those shows be live or memorex?

...ahem... and that's where I'll leave it.

He was at one time.

I happened to catch the "Generations" tour before the taped vocals were used. That one was bad and he had some moments in the others, but they were all live from what I could tell and from the boots I've heard.

When Steve A is/was at his A game, his vocals are by far up to the task. Unfortunately, physically his vocal chords were not up to the task as often as Journey wanted him to be. I think if they tourned less frequently he would still be with them.

True, I didn't get to see Generations tour, and yes I know he didn't sound good then, but most people, if they know the situation are fairly understanding, and I am not saying people can't have their opinions, negative or positive. My point is more that there are always those that no matter what the thread will drop the "he sucks," "Perry's better," "He was never good enough" post. Again, it is what is, we all have differing tastes...but when the same folks have gone into every thread and dropped virtually the same post, come on, we're all intelligent people here, we figured out the first 10 times that you don't like him, or may not have liked Jeff, or whoemever. That's the point I am trying to make.

You are dead on,If they toured 3 nights a week maybe 4 with good breaks between, He would have kicked ass.I have been to concerts when he was right on,If Neal and Friga wernt so hard up for money,He could have stayed with Journey, but I dont think Neall wanted him around anyway. he is a fucking tool anyway

I wished they'd just taken a year off to let Augeri's voice recover properly and kept him as a frontman. It would have saved JSS from a receiving right royal shafting at the very least. Anyway, yeah, nice clip.

I have my doubts as to whether or not Augeri's voice will ever recover.

Remeber, we were supposed to have a Solo album out by now, along with another Tall Stories album.

Don't you think if either of these were in the making, SOMEONE around here would have heard about it?

I don't think we will hear from Augeri again - ever. At least not vocally.

Yup, I fear you're right.

Shame, he seemed like a nice guy and "Arrival" was a decent Journey record.

I don't believe that SA's voice was damaged permanently. With the proper rest and maybe some medical help (considering that nowadays there are miraculous medical technologies to fix major vocal cords issues),he could resume his career.

Perhaps he needs more time to regain his professional pace and find enough confidence to come back.

Seconded.
