C'mon...you know we're a small bunch, very vocal, but still a small bunch..right?

ME? I can't wait to see them again, regardless of singer "x".
I'm pretty sure what you just pointed out is exactly why Neal and Jon were able to laugh off the online backlash they've been receiving (as reported by Jeremy in his blog). They know only the die hard fans bother to post online. They also know they fill about two rows of seats at each of their shows. They know full well the majority of people who see a show in the post perry era are only coming for one thing. To hear the greatest hits and relive memories of their youth. It's 2007. Melodic rock has been over for most state side music buyers for more than a decade. Most fans are not really interested in new material from these guys (especially without Perry).
The current line up isn't touring for the love of music. They're touring to pay the bills. They've made their front man choices purely from a business perspective, and from that perspective, they think they need a front man who has a similar pitch and/or tone as Perry. Hell, If they could tour with a cardboard cutout of Perry and play his taped vocals over their live instrumentals, they would.
The thing is, the overwhelming positive response they got to JSS on tour should have taught them they can tour the old material as long as they have a charismatic frontman with SOPHISTICATED vocal chords to handle the Perry material. Obviously, that wasn't a lesson they learned. It's their choice and their error, but they know it won't affect their bottom line. People here are just venting their feelings. Partially because the Perry era music means that much to them, but also partially because they have too much free time on their hands.
...ahem...
