Just saw this on AP(Associated Press, not Arnel Pineda):

"Sixty-six percent of NYU students would sell their right to vote in the next presidential election in exchange for a year's tuition at the pricey private university, Politico.com reported Tuesday.

According to the report, a survey of 3,000 students conducted by an NYU undergraduate journalism class found that an overwhelming majority of those polled said their right to vote could be for sale; in addition to the 66 percent who said they'd trade their vote for a free year of college, 20 percent said they'd exchange their vote for an Ipod Touch. Half of the students polled said they'd forfeit their right to vote forever for $1 million."

My guess is that most of these people won't vote anyway. At least I hope so. Then, my vote isn't diluted as much.

In principal, it sounds great to say you won't sell your vote. In reality, I don't see a single candidate this time that represents my views, and would be hard pressed to trust them if they said they did. I don't want any of these bozos in office, so yes, I'd sit this one out and take the money. But I would never permanently sell my vote, that's for dang sure.

I had a great conversation today with a girl who is a political consultant, and who worked for the Edwards campaign during the last election. We were talking about politics in general, and I asked her if there were any that didn't pander to whatever crowd they were talking to at the time. I mean, I know some are worse than others, but in general, politics is the business of lying to get elected. She said, no, unfortunately, they all have to play that game to some degree if they want any hope of getting elected. Really sad.

I brought up two examples... the first was the issue of the Hillary campaign planting questions in the audience. She didn't have a problem with that at all, and said they used to do it all the time, but only in one-on-one scenarios, like town hall meetings. She thought to plant questions during a debate would be unethical.

The second example was of Hillary's "Tipgate" scandal (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... d=16138132). I asked what the big deal was with someone just admitting a simple mistake, instead of lying a few times about it. She agreed it seemed ridiculous, but that again, that was just the way it was done.

I'm just so done with politics right now... We need some major change, but I doubt it will happen with the current structure in place.

But then again, I'm a part of that generation that was polled regarding this subject.
Slippery slope indeed... I think it more has to do with the fact that my generation has a very animosic view towards politics. And it seems to be hot or cold. Either fervent and lobbying with your causes, or could give two shits less what went on in Washington. Afterall, voting is for old people. (Not my view, just an overgeneralization to try and help explain the feeling behind this survey.) So why not trade in something that we might not care about using for something we really want. It is the generation of instant gratification. I don't associate with them. Bunch of emo wussies.

Here's my thought on that... oil is not the ONLY source of energy in the world. So why are we sitting back letting our domestic inventories come up in the red causing prices to sky rocket when I'm sure we could with just a little effort develop alternative, affordable, and accessible fuel (or what have you). Why, why, why... We're a society of iPhones and wireless internet and ICBMs. Is it too much to ask to have some more funding for hydrogen fuel research?

Whew.... I thought I was going to get skewered for a minute... haha! I forgot to add the most interesting part of my conversation with the political consultant. When talking about Hillary's "Tipgate", she mentioned that she wasn't surprised the Clinton's didn't have cash on them, as they haven't had to for a long time. She then relayed a very funny true story about something that happened shortly after B.C. had left office. He (or someone at his house) ordered a pizza and the pizza guy arrived, and B.C. himself answered the door. She said after a pause, he nervously realized he didn't have cash to pay for the pizza! She mentioned that in that world, they literally don't need to carry cash on them, and he'd totally forgotten how to pay for a pizza himself. Apparently the pizza guy was just as surprised to have an ex-President answer the door and told him not to worry about it -- they'd cover it. But still... talk about out of touch! How can any of these guys even hope to relate to working stiffs like me?

I want to vote, and I love to vote when I have someone to believe in, so please don't get me wrong. We have some serious issues going on in the world, such as the conflict w/Iran, border control, etc. I just get sick of voting for the lesser of two evils, which is what I feel certain I will be doing this time around.

I'd ride my bike everywhere if I wasn't afraid I'd be run over by all the SUV's and stuff out there. Luckily my Sentra is great on gas. I'd give it up in a heartbeat for something that ran on electricity or any other renewable source.
