Am I the only one scratching my head over this buffoon move? He called back to back timeouts to "ice the kicker". Anyone who has watched the NFL for more than two seasons knows that consecutive timeouts by the same team is NOT ALLOWED! This freakin' guy is in the NFL Hall of Fame! How the hell could he possibly not know that rule! I understand that the Redskins are going through a tough time, but this just can't happen in the NFL! This guy needs to go back to NASCAR! I think he'd do a lot better driving around in circles!

Well, for what it's worth, "we" wouldn't be trading coaches. I'm a lifelong Patriots fan, and there isn't a coach in the NFL I'd trade Belichick for. I certainly don't claim the Redskins, as my own. That said, I'm a bit of a football junkie, so watch as many games as I can on the dish. I just can't believe that ANY coach, let alone with this guys credentials (which are admittedly from eons ago) would EVER make such a basic coaching mistake! I guess the only saving grace for Gibbs is that given the tragedy of Sean Taylor's death, the media probably won't even blast him for his bonehead move!

As for your Dolphins...keep the faith! I honestly thought this was the week the Dolphins might get a win, because the Jets simply aren't a good team. Look at the bright side...they have Buffalo, Baltimore, New England, and the Bengals left on their schedule. Only one of those four teams is any good, so perhaps they'll steal one! There is a certain symmetry to the Dolphins being the only team in NFL history to go both undefeated and winless!

The game has passed Joe Gibbs by. He should have never come back. He is one of the greatest coaches of all time, and he tarnishes his legacy with each season that passes.

Agreed. The game has definitely passed Gibbs by. That has been apparent, since he came back to the NFL. That said, I've been watching football for 30 years, and I've NEVER seen a single coach call two consecutive time outs to "ice a kicker". There have been a whole lot of jackasses who have coached in the NFL, and every one of those dopes has known that the rules simply don't allow a coach to do this!

I'm still gonna laugh my ass off if they go 0-16. Like I said in another thread...even if the 'Boys had the Rams' record right now, I STILL find the 'Fins record comical.

I love Gibbs, but that was one of the stupidest things I have ever seen a coach do. I don't think it cost them the game because that kicker was perfect all day. I think the defense choking on that last drive was much more costly.

Yes, I am aware he is still involved with circle driving, and that probably explains his ineptitude as a head coach. As NIG said, it's probably the single, dopiest move, EVER made by a head coach in the NFL, and that is REALLY saying something. While one can certainly speculate that Lindell would have made a 51 yard kick to win the game (he made the first 51 yarder, as Gibbs called the first time out), it doesn't make the call any less idiotic. The reality is that 51 yard field goals in the NFL are not even close to being automatic, and making a 51 yard FG twice in a row is even less likely. Conversely, a 36 yard FG in the NFL is almost automatic! I think what made Gibbs look worse were his post-game comments about how he was asking the official on the sideline if he could call another time out. Two points...First and foremost, if that conversation actually took place, there is NO WAY the official told Gibbs it was permissable to call back to back time outs. Finally, ANY NFL head coach NEEDS to know the rules, especially a rule like this one, that most caual NFL fans know about!

I appreciate the fact that people in the south are incredibly passionate about NASCAR. Hell, it's nice to see that they have one other passion in life, outside of bible thumping! The only thing more confusing to me than people actually drawing pleasure from watching people drive a car around in circles for hundreds of miles is when one of these people tell me how shocked they are that one of these dopes died, hitting a wall at 200 MPH. I think the only real news story there would be if a person lived, after hitting a wall, going 200MPH.

My comment about "bible thumpers" was from personal experience, and wasn't meant to "berate southerners", as you put it! The fact of the matter is that I have lived in Charlotte, North Carolina and within 5 minutes of entering the state, 47 people ask "What church do you belong to". Also, it's the only DMV that I've ever walked into, in my entire life, that has Jesus license plates all over the wall, and that is to say nothing of the religious references all over fast food marquees! You may not like my opinion or my right to express it, and I'm pretty okay with that. It doesn't change the fact that the opinion I expressed was based on personal experience, not anecdotal stories!

Maybe you should've stated that to begin with instead of the alternative. I won't get into a religious debate with you, as I'm not religious (or aligned with any doctrine). I'm very okay with agreeing to disagree, in spite of your personal attack against me. I'm not sure where I ever made any comment about the acumen of NASCAR drivers. I admittedly have ZERO interest in NASCAR, or any activities surrounding it. It's the most mindless thing I've ever seen in my life. The "NASCAR yahoos" I referred to were the fans I've encountered in my life. Most of the ones I have encountered should have been walking around with a thesaurus, to assist them in putting a sentence together. Am I painting with a broad brush? ABSOLUTELY...but it doesn't change my opinion.

I realize that NASCAR has its supporters, including some dear friends of mine. That will never change the fact that driving around in circles (no matter how complex Dean tells me it is) doesn't do ANYTHING to stimulate my senses! The fact that NASCAR may have some drivers who are very bright or business savvy doesn't mean much to me. My local Sears mechanic has forgotten more about cars than I'll ever know. It doesn't mean I consider the guy an athlete!

Okay, there's where I went wrong. My apologies. I thought when you said that you meant the Yahoos as the drivers and team members. And I know and love those guys. Hence my going all crazy bitch on you.

As for the fans in the stands, I agree, largely uneducated and simple. But for the most part, the most honest genuine characters in the world. I haven't watched a race from the stands in over 15 years. I've been in the suites, so you see, the type of Nascar fan I spend time around are the sponsors and media and the rest of that echelon.

Thanks for the comment on my belief stance. That is actually due in large part to having it shoved in my face for the first 11 years of my life, now that I'm an adult, I choose to believe what I can, have faith in what I can't, and accept that somethings are just beyond either comprehension.
