I would bet that the new music will be good. However, everything that's gone down over the last few months.... man, the music is going to have to be AMAZING to make me forget all that stuff.

The new music can be
fantastic, and I couldn't care less. I'm not surprised to read that Kevin Shirley thinks Arnel is good - the guy can sing. I guess when the new bandwagon (no pun intended) leaves the station I'll hop over to the JSS Board and focus over there.

To all of you that say you cant stand the thought of Arnel being the singer and that you are done with Journey....
See you at the shows..

Hi LD- yeah, I don't know if I'll go to a Journey show again in my lifetime. Inflated ticket prices and the band's politics... I just can't see myself heading to another Journey show ever.
I'd hit a Tall Stories show though.

... and what have you heard?
The only thing I read was the Shipley thing and to my eyes, that looked a bit mixed. We'll see I guess.

You are just so blinded. You really think there is a line of people waiting to replace those that have washed their hands of these scumbags? LOL, dude, they are not only a dinosaur, but a very sleazy outfit, with backstabbing motherfuckers through all the ranks.
And just what have you heard? You heard Kevin Shirley sing the praises of the new upcoming Journey. What the Hell do you expect him to say? He works for them! Of course he is going to sing their praises. Man, you need to put the rose coloured glasses away.

Start thinking beyond this forum deano, lots of people still like the music and performers playing it.

I won't buy the new music blind. They better offer iTunes downloads or some way to sample the songs first. Can't imagine they won't. I'm sure they know how big a mountain they have to climb with new music from yet another new lead singer.

Yeah, ok. Ask the casual Journey fan to name two members and I bet you your trailer that 8 out of ten cannot do it.

I sure hope they do better than they have in the past with the digital world...

Journey will gain many more fans than they are losing. The hardcore passionate fans that are jumping off the ship are a small and meaningless fraction of the percentage of Journey's ticket buying/cd buying fan base. They've already gained more fans in the Philipines alone than the pissed off hardcores that are leaving. Not that I'm happy about it but it's the truth.
Those that hate, salivate, and masturbate over Journey politics live here on this forum and, in the big picture, we really don't matter at all.

Are you including all the "new fans" they won over by bringing in JSS. If you go back to the fan base they had in 2002-2003 and then start subtracting the pissed off fans who were there then it starts to hurt. It does not matter much how many fans they add fromthe Phillipines unless the band will be touring extensively over there.

Dean is right. Go over to JourneyDigest and read the entire interview KS did when Arrival came out. He minimized TBF and put down SP. With these guys, I think it's all about promoting what they're CURRENTLY doing, at the expense of past works.

lol
Maybe....
This new album is going to have to be an instant classic to win me back. We're talking better than Escape or Frontiers (had they been allowed to include Ask the Lonely and Only the Young on the original album).
I WILL NOT buy any album of re-recordings. Maybe if it was Jeff but not Arnel.
However, providing there's a really good sale, I will probably buy an album of new material just to see if it's any good. I think a lot of people will. Curiosity will be what sells this album and nothing else.
If it's lousy, I'm sure a cd with a scarab on the label will make a lovely coaster.

I agree totally -- this is from a post I made back in October:
Rip Rokken wrote:even though many of the hardest-core Journey fans hang out here, we don't make up more than maybe a tiny fraction of their ticket-buying audience... Gotta keep that realization in mind -- they aren't going to make every decision on what is popular here (thought it wouldn't hurt them at all to do so).

Journey will be way more marketable in Asia and South America.... so they'll most likely do a small US tour... probably less than a year.... and massively tour Asia and South America for the next two years....
..and if the new material is really good... it will probably get some US exposure... and most likely the band could return to a receptive market in the US after making a killing overseas....

Jeremey's blog said Cain or Schon said they know what Journey fans want. That tells me one thing.....Schon, Cain and Kevin Shirley are hell bent on returning to their past sound. They are trying to recreate the big bombastic Journey sound in Shirley's studio, with Arnel's high tenor trying to mimic Perry's style, probably right down to the stacked background vocals. I'm betting that's why they went with Shirley again....to try to recreate a Perry/Journey sound, using Arnel. They can't come up with anything fresh on their own, so they will dissect Perry's vocal stylings and dissect the way he applied his brand of melodics to song arrangements till they can apply them to new songs in the studio. It means their success was so tied to Perry's sound that they can't ever seperate from it...and they damn well know it.
So, to answer the question...what if the music is good? It will be tainted by their constant quest to recreate something that can never be recreated.

The new music can be
fantastic, and I couldn't care less. I'm not surprised to read that Kevin Shirley thinks Arnel is good - the guy can sing. I guess when the new bandwagon (no pun intended) leaves the station I'll hop over to the JSS Board and focus over there.
So why aren't you there now?
