Who wrote the new music?

They had time to write a complete album of new material and record it? I'm a bit skeptical. I guess they used some songs that they've been stockpiling over the years? I sure hope they didn't "borrow" the tunes that they wrote with JSS when they were on the road last year and decide to record those with Arnel.

I have no doubt that Neal and Jon had a "stockpile" of songs. I doubt we will know if any came from their work with JSS...I also doubt they would use any of those since they apparantly did not fit their direction.

My assumption would be that anything new was written by Schon & Cain.

What I know is that Arnel did not write anything on the new CD, at least hes not getting credit for it.

Kevin says Cain's writing is at its best, leaves him in awe...

It is my understanding that it was Schon/Cain. Stuff they have been working on and had in progress during their downtime.

I would bet that frig and fro had some outside help with the writing like they did on arrival. If they want to be relevant, they should really work with a mgmt team, producer, and writers that're working for relevant acts today. Not that I want to see Journey become MC Journey, but they need to take a tip from how Aerosmith updated their image years ago, got a great team behind them and made a comeback. Otherwise, Journey's album will just go into oblivion. They really need to COMPLETELY retool.

Probly like 'Drew said Schon/Cain and then like INXS on Switch they just bring the guy in to lay the vox down.

Given this scenario, this DOES smack a LOT of Cain not having the bag to put JSS' stamp on those.

There were several songs the band demoed back in the summer that were outtakes from Arrival, and a few Neal had demoed on his home workstation...My guess is that Neal & Jonathan punched up a few ideas they had bouncing around between the two of them, and that Kevin came in and did some of his suggesting regarding arrangements and direction of the song. Cain had reams and reams of lyrics on his computer, he's a prolific writer.

Look what Desmond Child did on the new Scorpions record. It's great and he co-wrote nearly every song, as well as producing. Gave a great new sound while keeing the classic Scorps sound. Andrew said he felt Loverboy did it best this year. I would say this one goes beyond it. But it's just personal preference I guess. My 9 to 14 year old kids love some of it.

I haven't been able to see the writing credits for the new loverboy album, but it's a really really good album. Thing is, without mgmt and label support, it'll be a great album that nobody will hear. Just like Styx with Cyclorama. Killer record. Nobody knew about it...

I suspect Kevin came in and helped them refine and tweak whatever stockpile of songs Neal and Jon were bringing to the table. I really think Journey needs a solid producer since Perry's been gone, but I think using Kevin isn't the best choice. Not because he's bad, but because they need a fresh direction with this new singer.

My suggestion? Bob Rock (Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and Metallica's producer). Then again, he might have been the better choice had Journey stuck with Soto.

The music was probably recorded a while back, plug in singer "x" at anytime and they could finish the cd fairly easy. ;)
