Some clown on the Noticeboard says Castronovo lipped...

His main argument seems to be that he listened to all recording from this past tour and all YouTube clips, and all Deen's singing is identical. He also says that Deen's voice is so good, it was actually probably Augeri's voice that they were piping in.

Hmm... When I saw them, everyone was floored by Deen's singing, and to be honest, it sounded perfect... not a note out of place. He even held out some notes longer than on the album versions. But no way in heck they are using tapes of Augeri. Deen has some specific qualities to his style that I noticed in the show, and from his songs on the Generations album. It was definitely Deen's voice.

I remember someone here sharing the story of Deen singing back in 2005, I think it was, and there were a couple of fans that were pointing at him and mouthing to him that he was lipping. He got them back stage and asked them to name a song and he sang it for them, a cappella, right there and floored them. Can't remember who shared that but that's my recollection.

Yeah. Right. Augeri was piping in with Castronovo. OK.. Very unlikely. More than likely it was Perry, if anything.

You noticed that, too? I'll tell ya one Deenisn I noticed in the show, and on his songs on "Generations" -- it's hard to describe, but it's like he puts a little roll on his L's sometimes (words that end with L). Listen closely to the way he sings "high school sweethearts" in "A Better Life". I first noticed the L thing in concert, during the line "Hoping you'll see" in "Open Arms". Definitely a Deenism. :P

It was...LA, October 2006. Scroll all the way to the bottom...the very last paragraph he talks about it.

Great story, LL!

You know what happened to me in Atlanta. Two people, a wife and a husband; I was singing Open Arms and they came right to the front of the stage and they pointed at me and did like this (makes animated hand gestures) you know, like I was lip syncin'.
Oh I got upset.
I found them in the crowd. I had my sister go out there and find them. I said, 'you think I was lip syncing'. The guy said 'yeah dude, you sounded just like Perry. That wasn't even your voice, that was Perry'.
I said, come back stage, I want you to meet the whole band. With all the guys from Def Leopard. I said you pick five Journey songs. I'll sing in front of you, OK, is that a deal? He says 'yeah'. I take him and his wife, go back there, he goes 'Open Arms'. Nailed it. He looked at me and said 'Faithfully'. He started getting sheepish then.
I did Faithfully, BOOM. He says, 'I am so sorry man, I had no idea'. I said, 'you go on a website, any website and you tell them that I do not lip sync. I have never lip synced. I will NEVER f***ing lip sync'.
Tell them. I said 'any other ones?' He says, 'no dude, I'm so sorry. I am so sorry'. I said, 'no come on pick another one. Come on, I'll do any of 'em, come on, let's go'.
He was so embarrassed, he was so f***in' embarrassed because he and his wife were up there going 'you're lip syncing'.
You can go on record with that – you print that!

Now I know an easy way to get backstage to a Journey concert! :P

That's awesome.. I saw Journey a couple years ago..Deen was singing, there was no way he was lip syncing..The guy has a good voice.. My brother wondered why he didn't do the singing and get another drummer..I don't think he would hold up very long..I wonder how people would accept him..

Rip, I think your animated hand gestures will send you right outside the venue/county fair instead of backstage ;) Image

Hold on now.... very rare is it that a drummer can sing well night after night, but THEN to have that same drummer sing "Mother Father", "Where Were You", etc, AND play the drums right on time, etc. I also thought to myself, how the hell does he make it look so easy to play the drums AND sing some of the toughest Journey material that even seasoned LEAD singers have a hard time doing. It does make sense that he "might" be lip syncing to pre-recorded tracks of himself singing. Especially on the tough songs. I could see him singing Open Arms live, but it wouldn't shock me to find out he was lipp'in to those tougher (drum) songs. And OFCOURSE he could take someone back stage and sing his ass off away from the drums. The man has a fantastic voice! Time to check out some boots, vids, of "Mother Father", "Where Were You" and see if they are too similar. ;) But then again they could always record 2-3 different versions and use them once in a while to mix things up. ;) Would really suck if we see his head set mic fall off and his voice is still going on.

Maybe I need to make sure I'm using the right hand signals before I try this. Isn't the signal for lip-synching to put your thumb and fingers together (as if you are holding a broomstick) and move it rapidly up and down? :P

Oh for crying out loud... Normally I don't bash or get angry, but you moron's simply bring out the worst in me.

You conspiracy theorists need to chill out. Not only that, you need to clean out your ears because you obviously can't discern differences between vocal tones and qualities. There's a VERY distinct difference between Augeri's voice and Deen's.

I saw Deen sing for the first time at the WOF after concert at the House of Blues in California. VERY small venue. Practically a club. He sang Suzanne while playing drums, held long notes that went even higher than Perry's original album version when Augeri himself was struggling to hold lower notes on songs he was singing throughout the night. I was so close to him I could hit him with my spit. HE WAS SINGING LIVE. It was that night that I formed my opinion that Deen should have been singing lead in Journey in place of Augeri.

Deen's voice has always been better than Augeri's by a country mile. He sang lead on songs Augeri couldn't handle.

All that aside, here's a bomb to blow a permanent hole in your conspiracies:

If they were going to pipe Augeri's taped voice in at all, WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY PIPE IN THE LEAD SINGER'S OWN VOICE TO MAKE IT SEEM AS THOUGH THE DRUMMER WAS SINGING?? DOES THIS MAKE SENSE TO YOU?? LIKE AUGERI WOULD WANT OTHERS TO THINK THE DRUMMER COULD SING AS WELL OR BETTER THAN HIM??

Jesus Christ people. Get lives already.

Re-read the entire thread, Behshad, you'll find Vladin and possibly Perrydise are in fact swayed by this nonsense. It was he/she or other's who haven't posted in the thread who might have been thinking likewise that my rant was directed at, not those who were against the conspiracy.
