X factor wrote:Agreed RIP (on Marvel comics and movies) but WHY OH WHY can't Hollywood do a THIRD comic film that's worth a shit? XMEN 3, BATMAN AND ROBIN, and now SPIDERMAN 3...all sucked ass...so dissapointing, particularly X 3 (which the studio basically rushed into production to fuck Bryan Singer's SUPERMAN film and beat it out of the gate. Joke was on them, as SUPERMAN RETURNS was a collosal piece of crap too!)
Ah, I'm glad there's other grown men geeks like myself on these boards!
Ahhh... Now I get where your screen name came from! I didn't even connect the two. You know, I wouldn't consider myself an easy person to please by any means when it comes to films, but I actually really enjoyed X3 and Spider-Man 3. I know I seem to be in the minority on both of those, though. Maybe it's because I didn't care if a major character died in X3, and wasn't really a huge Venom fan to start with. I do think Venom was the weakest part of Spider-Man 3, and yes, they did try to juggle too much in it, but I still really enjoyed it.
Now "Superman Returns" is a different matter altogether to me... I can understand Singer wanting to pay homage to the Chris Reeve films, and thought it was pretty cool to use the Marlon Brando footage for Jor-El, but he got so many other things wrong. I could barely find much at all to like about it other than a few action sequences. Biggest complaints (in no particular order)...
1) DON'T screw with the primary colors in the suit, dude! He looked like the evil Supes in "Superman III". By the way, I saw one of those Evil Supes costumes fetch over $40G on eBay about a year ago.
2) The whole film was dark and gloomy -- just didn't look or feel like a Superman film, IMO. Also got too depressing near the end, which fit the gloominess of the film. Horrible...
3) I thought Kevin Spacey sucked as Lex Luthor -- again, I seem to be in the minority there.
4) No chemistry between any of the actors... especially Clark and Lois... they ALL sucked.
5) No climactic showdown between Supes and Lex -- what the heck were they thinking?
6) Aside from a passing resemblance to Chris Reeve, I don't think Brandon Routh was the right choice for the role. He looked more like Superboy than Superman, and delivered a very wooden Reeve-like imitation.
One of the worst comic book films I've seen, and I was just profoundly disappointed with it.... Bryan Singer doesn't deserve another chance with the franchise.
