I just listened to it on the way in to work this morning. First time in several months that I've listened to it in its entirety. It's still my favorite Journey album, probably due to it being the least commercial of the Perry-era albums and also due to Perry's huskier tone as you mentioned. He was more of a rock singer on "Frontiers". Not necessarily better but more muscular, if you will.

Well, I got through most of the title track, so it was just short of 40 minutes.

I love Frontiers.. I don't understand,when people bitch about the quality of Red 13 and Generations being terrible,when Frontiers sucked also.(not the band,wink). It isn't even close to Escape and even some of the older stuff.. I also hate the fact,Perry changed the theme.. What's with Darth Vader with his mask off on the cover..They could have had such cool cover art with Frontiers,really bugs me.. That is Perry being the ass controller he is.. Escape,Frontiers,and Freedom! Oh that's right,its Escape,Frontiers,and Raised on Radio..WTF? Sorry for the rant,but its always chapped me..I just want to cry,it could have been so much better..

To each his own, but I actually perferred Frontiers over Escape. I realize Escape was THE album that took Journey to number and rightfully so. But, frontiers is actually the album that really turned me onto Journey. It was heavier than Escape, and I loved Perry's voice on Frontiers. In regards to ROR, it was a great pop album, but certainly not the direction I would've hoped Journey to head into. If there had been a "Freedom" album that sounded like Escape/Frontiers, that would've been awesome. Hindsight is always 20/20 though. While I didn't like ROR as much as Escape or Frontiers, there are still some great moments on the disc.

Frontiers kicked ass. I think I liked it better than Escape. Who knew this would be the last major tour with this lineup. I caught them on this tour in Miami and today how happy and appreciative I am for it.

Of all the re releases from last year I loved the Frontiers cd the most. The added tracks of Only The Young, Ask The Lonely made it a completely different and better record.

All great songs -- killer disc!

...but.. id bet you the biggest chicken fry in texas that most people that bought that album never listened more than once to side 2.. side 2 really separated the real fans from the casuals.. Troubled Child is a haunting deep tune... one of their greatest..

I agree,much beter than ROR,although Why Cant This Night Go On forever blew me away{causeit sounded like Faithfully } from that girl Friga}Perry kicked ass on that song.I saw him do it live ,he nailed it.

It's obvious the Escape tour is what started the decline of his voice. The crystal clear tones of previous records were gone. Seperate Ways is the first time his voice cracked on record. The "huskiness" is the damaged vocal cords. Still was great though, not knocking SP at all. I also caught the Frontiers tour in San Francisco on the Day on the Green, and am too thankful for that. Only SP concert I will ever see. It was great!!!! Journey, Triumph, Eddie Money, Bryan Adams, Night Ranger, wow!!!

What I would give to hear a recording of that ............that song, "Troubled Child", and "Sweet and Simple" are my trinity of Journey songs I would love to hear live w/Perry above ALL else.....you are a lucky dude!

Oh man, side 2 kicked butt! That side is classic. If you "liked" Journey, you knew side one but if you lived and breathed Journey it was side two all the way, WITH the exception of Back Talk. Blech!

Even "Back Talk" had its charms. I didn't discover "Frontiers" until I was in college and found Sabrina's copy of it. Right off the bat I was sucked in to the progressive tunes. "Edge of the blade" was definitely my favorite Journey tune for a while.

Speaking of "Troubled Child," had the good fortune of sitting in the room with the band while they tried to relearn the song. Listening to the instrumental version of that song with no vocals was absolutely amazing. It just sounded like a different song - there was so much going on I had never noticed before! Frontiers (the band) plays that tune once in a blue moon, but after hearing it played the way I did this past summer, I can promise you that we are missing something in our version.

Jeremey, Frontiers band's version of Edge of the Blade is great! Ive heard you do it twice now and it sounds real good, caused me to put it back on regular rotation on the Ipod!

Frontiers LP was awesome for the time, I was already 22 so it didnt have the influence on me as Infinity did in 1978...
I was not a fan of faithfully at the time... but loved chain reaction and seperate ways and troubled child and back talk!
