World Tours

Just wanted to ask this question because it seems most people here are very up on the music world.

My question is, has any very popular bands ever included a stop in the Philippines on their world tour? I think the closest they come to it is Japan. Anyone know for sure?

The only one that actually comes to my mind is Firehouse. I know they were REALLY popular there a few years ago at least.

The Scorpions played in the Philippines on the Pure Instinct World Tour.(the exact year escapes me,but it was sometime in the 90s)

And,of course,Bryan Adams toured the Philippines (actually,it was an extended Asian tour) in 1994 with the "So Far So Good" album.
Then I think INXS had a show in Manila last year?Wasn't paying too much attention to the news, however I heard it.

What I know for sure is that Maroon 5 will stop in the Philippines this year as a part of their world tour.

Rumors say that U2 and Madonna will have concerts there either this year or in 2009.

Adams played to 220,000 in Manila in 1994.

Metallica and Bon Jovi. (side note: Kirk Hammet is half Filipino)
Although there was riot on the first night of the Bon Jovi concert :D
I think the Philippines is not a stranger when it comes big bands and concerts.

Hey! I thought you are pretty up to date with Philippine affairs since you claim
you have lived there and also brushed shoulders with Arnel Pineda :?:

if anyone needs to be exposed I think it would be the thread starter...
he has gone through several usernames already and search his old posts...there are so many contradictions. claiming he is a friend of Arnel, has lived in the Phillipines but is now asking hows the music scene back there. really something fishy.
Search how many times he mentions he hates Arnelians and Susies which seems like a smoke screen to me.

Yeah Rick, you got a point there, good one.

O.k. Pedro what I was getting at was I'm not sure if a stop in the Philippines was worth it to anyone. But since some folks came through for me and named off a few, I can now sort of get the idea that there could perhaps be a stop for Journey there.

Laura raised a great issue, if Maroon 5 is planning to be there, speculation could have it that Journey will play there with them, not sure Maroon 5 would be the opener for Journey there or vise versa. Same goes for the U2 and Madonna concerts. Some information to use in speculating who Journey may play/tour with and when.

And knock yourself out Pedro.

Who didn't answer your question? Rick or me? If me, I don't see where your question to me is. Can you repeat it?

As for the rubbing shoulders with Arnel, No, rubbing shoulders is what that dude on American Idol did with the judges on that show. I think your challenging me to prove something here, trust me, I don't mind it one bit. I tell you what......do you know Arnel personally? Do you talk with him regularily? If not do you know someone on a completely personal basis who does? After you answer me that we shall then proceed with this specific conversation.

You should be asking those questions to yourself. Its YOU who claimed knowing Arnel personally and living for some time in the Philippines and yet you are starting a thread asking people how's the music scene out there when you are supposedly the most qualfied person to answer that :D

I left the Philippines ten years ago and have not been back since then. Even when I was living there, I was too involved in my own doings with the band and my girlfriend that I didn't really keep a tab on who was coming in and out of the country that are famous bands and singers. I was there from 86' to 91' and then a few years later I went back for a year to work on a different project with one of the original members of Arnel's first band. We formed a band based out of Sta Lucia Ilocos sur after the AMO band days. It was in the AMO band when I had first met Arnel.

FireHouse played for 40,000 in the Philippines in 2004

40,000 won't be a drop in the bucket compared to if/when Journey with Arnel plays there in the Philippines and I'll tell you why. It won't matter if Journey puts out a good album or not and it won't matter if Arnel lives up to our expectations or not. The fact is what's going on with this Journey/Arnel thing is history in the making for the people of the Philippines. Journey is an American classic rock band who's music has been played in the Philippines for 30 years. Bands across that place played the Journey hits, club stereo's blasted Journey almost every night of the week. It is the first time in Philippines history that an American band such as Journey having such an impact on entertainment there actually hired one of their own....Arnel to front the friggin band. Not only is Arnel from the Philippines but he is also well known for his own music by many people over there. Early on someone mentioned that Bon Jovi played there and it turned into a riot. Because of this history being made in the Philippines with an American classic band having a Pinoy front them, it's going to be out of control, completely out of control if/when there's a concert there.

Problem is, only about 25% (if that) of the people who show up at the concert, are going to do so with the intentions of using money to purchase tickets to get in. The rest are going to pretty much jump through their assholes trying to get in. And Arnel's going to go down in Philippines entertainment history for being the first Filipino to have fronted an American classic rock band. I would really hate to be one of the people running that concert because I just see a big fat international incident written all over this one and it will unfold leading up to or during the Journey concert in the Philippines. I even think in order to satisfy the masses, they may do more then just one or two concerts, they may do four to six of them in a week or two period of time, just so it gives all the fans some sort of hope that they can find a show where they could get in without everybody showing up on the same night or two.
