JOURNEY Scheduled To Open Virtual World In 'Second Life' - Jan. 25, 2008

On February 1, multi-platinum rockers JOURNEY will release their new Virtual Island in Second Life. A grand opening party is planned inside Second Life at the "Journey Rock Band" sim and will feature a meet-and-greet with band members. Live DJs will be spinning many of JOURNEY's classic hits, recorded studio and live performances, as well as lots of other great music for fans to party to! The grand opening party is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. ET/PT. The Journey Island region in Second Life is named "Journey Rock Band". Learn more at www.secondlife.com.

JOURNEY has long been known for innovations in stage sets, so creating a Second Life Island for fans to enjoy was an easy decision. The Island features dedicated areas for each album along with audio and video presentations. There are also two venues on the island, the Escape Club and the Captured Amphitheater, where live SL events can be held.

JOURNEY's newly redesigned web site, www.journeymusic.com, will be re-launched on or around January 29. It will feature band history, tour information, photos and a new forum.JOURNEY is currently working on a new album with legendary producer Kevin Shirley, which they hope to release by spring/summer 2008. Their 2008 world tour begins in Santiago, Chile mid-February. More tour dates will be announced soon.

The Journey Island was built by Industrial-Design.com, JOURNEY's long time web developer and features work by SL builders Farrokh Vavoom, Argus Collingwood, Adrian Harbinger and Jocelyn Sands.

JOURNEY — Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) — recently announced its new lead singer, Arnel Pineda ("pin-eh-da"). He replaces Jeff Scott Soto, who parted ways with the band last year after stepping in for Steve Augeri, who had to leave the band in 2006 for medical reasons.

Arnel hails from Quezon City in the Philippines and has been singing JOURNEY songs — in addition to original material — with his band, THE ZOO, for the past couple of years in clubs all over his homeland.

second life's rules are way stricter than any ordinary forum. they won't have to worry about moderation because you aren't agreeing only to their rules but to second life's also.

The first two paragraphs made absolutely no sense to me. That is cool that they are relaunching the website though. It sounds like I will definitely have to catch a show on Journey Island!

moving forward... I want to like it, really--- but not sure until we actually here Arnel with Journey live.

I remember thinking the same thing until i saw journey in 1998--- and i learned to love it.

I've never been to second life but I saw it on that CSI:NY episode. Is it free?
Could I have my SL character go in and harass the band? Can I step on Neal's foot and kick Friga and stuff?
Throw stuff at them? Kidnap Ross? Come on there must be SOMEthing.

That's probably a good thing. Um... or maybe not. Can you imagine? Virtual Wigglers!

(this might actually be really entertaining)

I can't kidnap Ross or bitch-smack anyone? Crap. Where, I ask you, is the fun in that?

On a serious note, I wonder something - I'm familiar with the concept of virtual worlds/sites like this, but I've never bothered with visiting one (unless message boards count), so I don't know what this site contains... does anyone know, have other bands/artists/celebs participated in this kind of thing as a means of promotion and fan interaction? Or would Journey be a first?

I'm just wondering how common (or uncommon) it is before I fully rip into it. j/k

I will have to pretend-hear them first before I make up my mind whether or not to pretend-like them. And unless there's new fake music, they can count me out as an imaginary fan.

Let's just hope the new site doesn't allow all those wiggle wack jobs to drool over Augeri's red leather pants, endlessly! That was FUCKING nauseating!
It sounds as if it probably isn't going to be much different of a site, based on what's been said about any criticism. It sounds like everything will be 100% positive (which means 100% UNREALISTIC), all the time! Another yawn fest...BORING!

 That's what it took me to die.Seriously.

I've tried SL out a couple years ago, registered and the next minute I sank into the ocean or whatever that was...all the way to the bottom.I was officially "dead". :| I laughed my ass off, uninstalled the programm and never went back again.

Interesting *virtual* move for Journey.I guess it will be interesting to see the band evolving in cyber-space.
Can we hope for a cyber-reunion with Steve Perry?

I just hope they are following the move to more more more multimedia. I've always thought their website would be a great avenue to get current/classic audio and video out - and I hope they take advantage of this. The 2 or 3 clips they put up during the Arrival days just didn't cut it. Someone's got vaults of concert audio on tape I'm sure and I know fans would be more than willing to fork out some money to download them.

Some cyber-lawyers would be necessary, too. As long as they'd convince them to sign the cyber-agreements...we can cyber-hope.

I wondered the same when I read that line. IF so, then I'll stop complaining (well, at least about that).

If they release a CD of it, I'll still be -->

This could be the golden opportunity for Journey to pretend to make a latin flavored imaginary cd! (Since they already have real chocolate flavored ones).

Interested to see the relaunch of the Journey home page. I hope they post some clips of the new music with Arnel to sample or at least post the re-recordings of the dirty dozen.

That being said, am I the only one who's confused about this whole second life thingy?
