Now, let's just hope this guy doesn't have too many brothers in back of Raul to rule with an iron fist for another 50 years!

Funny...I never gave Deen a thought when I posted this. I also never drew the comparison. I hope that for his sake, that he actually doesn't go by the nickname of "Castro"! Definitely not a nickname I would ever want!

Now he has more time to spend with Jimmy Carter.

Fuck off Rip.

This departure tells me he is close to dying.

That's what I was thinking. People like Carter, Danny Glover, Sean Penn, and Harry Belafonte are probably mourning today, along with their other dictator pal, Hugo Chavez.

Many here feel that he has been dead for a while.

In a sick twist, I can see him being propped up and drug around Havana by Raul and Lage.

Imagine "Week-end at Bernie's" as "Week-end at Fidel's"

You're a Castro fan?

My biggest concern is that if the 'elections' don't go well (i.e., fixed so Raul runs the country), there's going to be rioting. Castro's been given the speech from the doctor to get his affairs in order. He's going to try to fix it as much as he can before he goes.

I can't wait to build a new vacation home in Cuba.
I can easily see that country becoming a new American state, if not 2 or 3.
Maybe we'll finally build that bridge from Florida too. We might have to when Cuba becomes our primary sugar farm land for ethanol.

Cuba will definitely become a HUGE tourist destinations for Americans, once the dictatorship ends! I've always believed that Americans would flock to Cuba, if it was ever opened up to travel. I think based on the fact that Raul is probably going to be named the next "president" that not much is going to change in Cuba, any time soon!

Food for thought...
What if Hugo Chavez pops another brain cell and decides to invade Cuba.
What will America do? What will the world do?

My father had been to Cuba several times prior to the revoltution and embargo of course, he said it was one of the most beautiful countries he had ever been to. Hopefully when Castro breathes his last breath that things will get on track, I would love to visit there.

Easy one. God, this would be easy for W to handle.

If Chavez was that stupid, to invade a state a mere 90 miles off the US coast, would he not think the US would be just a little pissy? Granted, Chavez poses no National security risk to the United States, but I think the world would understand if the US took action. I wish he would invade Cuba. Let him have Cuba, and we'll take Venezuela.

Speaking of W, what the Hell is he doing in Africa? He looks so out of place and you can tell he wants no part of that place. He is making an ass out of himself daily.

He wont- Im sure Fidel's consulted with Hugo over this whole thing- Let him know hes fading into the sunset and getting a successor all set up.

The question should not be a hypothetical what if chavez invades? The question should be what should America do today in the face of the change? I suppose our left wing media will eulogize ole Fidel for two months filling us with crap like "everyone had health care and could read" instead of reminding us about the stuggles of people like Raul Rivero, the 247 journalists imprisoned in 2003 (many of them never realeasd) the scores of aids victims quarantined and left to die, or the fact that if you go a few blocks from the main square where European toursts are presented with an glossed over picture you meet scores of peasants who rub their chin (symbol Castro's beard) and shake their head in distain and hate .

I suppose we will hear sermons telling us weve got it all wrong and we shoud open up tourism and open a dialogue not even mentioning human rights and how we had our policy wrong all along.

If thats all we hear, nothing will ever change in Cuba.

When Fidel kicks off (if he's not already dead, as has been theorized), I'm sending my representative to the graveside service.

Oh I'll do more than visit. I'll permanently retire there.
I'll play golf every day, and hang out on the boat.
I'll also garden and a build a weather station.
Maybe I'll grow sugar cane...fuel my truck, and make booze.

Nope, not a bad plan at all...

I imagine that every lame duck President has a lot of travel time planned for their last year. Make 'good will' trips. Talk about social issues and the global economy. Take lots of photos and collect a ton of gifts. I'd have no problem at all doing that myself.

I'd much prefer that to Bill Clinton's approach, who decided to try to accomplish another 4 years worth of work via a flurry of last-minute executive orders right before he left. What a mess for a new administration to walk into...

Raul graduated from my tiny Catholic high school in upstate NY. (seriously)
There's gotta be something in this for me. I need ideas! A free vacation maybe?
The scatter-dump i just took in the toilet, looks eerily like Cuba...that's a good sign!...isn't it?
