Journey's New album - how would this one look on the cover?

I think this looks amazing. The author is Wavid (he's responsible for many Scarab-related beauties like this one and he's also been working for Kevin Chalfant.)
This one is the best so far...Simply beautiful.
I've been admiring Wavid's artwork for a long time.He sent me this a few weeks ago describing it as a combination between classic and new...exactly what Journey are trying to do nowadays. The first thing that crossed my mind was that I'd love to see this on a Journey album.

IMO,this would make an exquisite cover for the new CD.
The symbols are all there and I think it looks much more alive and eye-catching than the last Journey cover ("Generations")

Thoughts?

Definitely! It's gorgeous. I love the Departure album cover and this colorful one reminds me of it. Would get my vote. :)

Pretty neat. But then again if they have Ross sing the opening track they'll have to pass them out at the gate again, no matter how pretty.

That's where it takes me when I look at it,but at the same time it gives me a 21st century feeling as well. :)

nice work, but would not be my choice. i prefer a more organic less machanic look like infinity-departure. maybe it's computer generated vs freehand?

I have to agree somewhat with Lula. Although I think it is very good, it's just a little bit too busy. Streamline away some of the mechanical aspects and then I'd vote for it.

Third that. It's a good piece, no question, but there's too much going on for it to be an album cover.

Agree with that comment too, take out some of the mechanical aspects and it would look even better.

machanic? I thought you were an educator? Who taught you, RedJoe13??

I'd much prefer something with some broad pouring milk in a jug on a beach with a golden scarab laying at her feet and some guy eating a clam in a hammock, while a smiling sun-baby like from Teletubbies looks on. Oh and the chick has a scarab tattooed above her ass crack. And she's an Indian.

Honestly, I think it sucks. Doesn't look serious enough. Looks to me like a juke box at Mel's Diner.

No offense Laura.

I was thinking more along the lines of Trial By Fire II.

And I was obviously joking.

TBF's cover was a good match with the musical/lyrical content. I'm not sure the new album will be a TBF II.They need the Scarab back in full display.

I love Wavid's work! He is responsible for the re-released VU cover as well as Kevin Chalfant's MySpace page. He also did Ross' website. I somewhat agree that it is a little TOO detailed making it feel busy...but tell me that would not stand out on a CD shelf in Best Buy!!

Looks to me like one of those weird games like "memory"

Honestly, how about something more Civilized like a picture of the actual band since the lead singer change for good...maybe play around with it like a silhouette type of the band members with a tint of their flash colors orchestrated into it. Maybe having a small sweet scarab in the lower corner. Something Different would be cool.

At the time of "Generations", the band commissioned artwork from multiple artists.
Christopher Payne, who's Red 13 work left me uninspired, had a great contribution for the cover.
Check out his gallery...all the Scarab ones are exceptional.

Like this? This is a version without the "claws" that hold the Scarab. It's a bit cleaner, although I didn't mind those claws.
Either way,it would be a nice cover...Like Dave said,it would just stand out on a shelf.

That's really stunning work. I especially like the scarab within a scarab within a scarab. Journey keeps on goin, eh?

I was just thinking the same thing -- it looks very symbolic. Each scarab represents a Journey singer, with each newer one being a little smaller in scale than the former.

That's better. But still the red dots need to go, the "knife blade" looking things too. Still looks a bit too USS Enterprise-ish. I would suggest instead of all of that, why not more along the lines of a classic porthole? The curved "journey" and "freedom" are also a bit hard to read. Sorry, I'm being picky. But to be on an album cover, people should be able to look at it casually and see whats going on instead of having to sit there and study it.

After looking at it more,I agree..Get rid of the mechanical part..Also,what's with the bug eyes and feelers? I don't like that.. put the razor looking thing from the other albums on the front of it and I would love it.. Does anyone know what the album is going to be called? I think freedom would be the right choice..I think Herbie would feel pretty proud also..

You are spot-on with that observation....hell, I didn't even SEE those words until you mentioned them!
