Today I heard Journey blasting from my husband's computer & wondered why - he's not a fan or music fan, really. He came out later & said, "Journey's new lead singer is Asian?" I said, "yeah...he's from the Phillipines...what were you playing in there?" He told me he saw it on this blog that he reads:

This writer, obviously a fan of Journey, has also named two of his book characters, John Perry & Steve Cain. Anyway, interesting comments there too - one being #9 who is a friend of a friend of JSS.

Great read. Some interesting comments about how if Journey doesn't create new music, they ARE a cover band of themselves, no matter who's singing.

The comment from #9 "Burns" was interesting as well.

Did I ever mention that Soto is a friend of a friend? I have subsequently learned more about Journey than I ever wanted to know.

That can be taken a lot of ways.

I'll agree with that. All the more reason to have high hopes for the new album. *fingers crossed*

Journey's recent musical output has been just as good, if not better, than many of their heyday classics.
Don't let the fog of time jaundice your view.

Higher Place, Faith in the Heartland, Place in Your Heart, Signs of Life etc....stacks right up there with anything they've done.

Not vocally they don't. Better? C'mon, you can't be serious. Augeri's voice never took off and soared, and that's part of Journey's signature sound. They also miss the heart felt passion that Steve Perry brought. Personally, they left me kind of wondering what it was that was missing. I'd say they lacked chemistry and magic. They're a bit light lyrically as well. Faith In The Heartland and Place In Your Heart were at least original, but Higher Place and Signs Of Life were generic, contrived copy and paste jobs from tidbits of other songs and a futile attempt to mimic the magic of a prior singer.

Listen, I own GH + 5, and Perry's voice is not the sine qua non of what determines a classic.

Neal's "Who's Crying Now" -influenced solo lasts for about five seconds tops.
HP is one of the best Journey rockers ever writtern in any era.

The music is still there,the voice isn't.. I thought ,All of the things,World gone wild,Live and Breathe,To be alive again,We'll meet again.. They were all incredible songs I would put right up at the top..I like Augeri's delivery.I didn't expect SP.. The music,what some of the best and most creative period! I would love to hear Arnel sing those.. When I heard "Remember me" for the 1st time,I just about crapped myself. I didn't know who Augeri was and I just absolutely loved the song,it didn't matter that Perry wasn't on it.. If they can pump out Arrival style music,with Arnel vocals,I would be in heaven!! I wish they would do some Arrival stuff with Arnel in concert..
