Brian seems like a total class act. Anyone ever met him/heard stories?

I had the pleasure of meeting him 5 years ago in a bar of all places!

It was just after the We Will Rock You musical opened in the West End, London. I'm email buddies with Neil Murray (Whitesnake/MSG/Brian May Band/Deep Purple...etc) who plays bass in the house band and arranged to meet for a chat and drink after the show i was attending at the pub round the corner from the theatre.

Anyway we got chatting about music, how its changed, how we now have Rock Musicals and the like, and I then said that i'm pleased for Brian as he seemed somewhat at a loose end after Freddie had passed and needed a musical project to get his teeth stuck into. This was before the whole Queen & Paul Rodgers thing took off. I then looked to my right and there was Brian!!

I really didnt know what to say at first as this guy is a hero of mine, and you know what they say about the risks of meeting your heroes! I then thought, well we're in a pub, we're stood at the bar, and i said..."Excuse me, but could I have the pleasure in buying you a well earned pint?!?!?!"

Brian replied, "Thank you so much for the offer, but Jim (Queen manager) has just got them in!" We ended up having a chat about the show for a couple of mins before he went and sat down! I was thrilled. A great man as well as a great musician. :)

Cool story... you're lucky. This poll aside, I sometimes think Brian is one of the most underappreciated guitarists in the business. Classic British tone, a great riff writer, and great melodic sense

I am a little biased, but i agree...he really is an underrated player. Mind you, having said that this was a pretty big poll and coming second isn't really that bad, so people are as one in such an opinion i guess!

Besides, polls are just a bit of fun really and never to be taken seriously! All it really proves (in the looses of sense!) is who's the most popular, not wreally who's the best as that's only a matter of opinion. Music is such a personal thing.

Luke beat out Neal, SRV, Jimi and May?

We need to count some hanging chads! :D

Brian also received his Ph.D. in AstroPhysics last year.

Not bad for a musician!!!
