Wheel in the Sky, Chain Reaction and others. Why is Cain playing guitar instead of keys? The keys are really missing in CR.

cant attest to one particular song, but i recall he's always played guitar in some form or fashion...visibly...in every concert i've seen him in (dvd or live)

Yes Jon go back to keys.

I dont mind him plecing it up on a couple of songs, but the piano is his place.

Now Jon, go and record a complete piano version of Still She Cries, and that can be yeh solo this year for the tour

His point is that he is playing guitar much more than he used too..

I don't think that is true. He plays guitar on select songs. If they're playing those select songs more, then yeah, he's playing more guitar than normal.

He'a always played guitar on Wheel in the Sky, and a few others. I think it's pretty cool.

I think you can't play Stone in love or Keep on Runnin with out a rythm guitar, It would be whack sounding when Neal goes into his solo.

Is it just me or does he just not look right standing there with a guitar? Something's amiss.

Check out the Chile show and see if he doesn't look like Bill Engvall.

He's a more than adequate rhythm player... the synth from Chain Reaction would be cool, but I think the songs he plays rhythm on mostly call for it.

I think "Chain Reaction" is better with twin guitars.

I like most of Journey's double-guitar songs, naturally, and I would LOVE to see more of them.

It's a good sign that Cain's strapping up again, it means the boys are rocking harder...

Cain's keyboards are still in the mix on the songs he is covering rhythm guitar - They're just sequenced.

I would actually go see a concert, just to hear that! I think you and I are the major "Still She Cries" fans around here. Damn - I'd love to hear that without vocals, just Jon and Neal - it doesn't even need the strings that are on the record.

That's one of my top ten favorite Journey songs. AMAZING tune. I get chills like six times during the song. Cain's piano solo, the instant Neal cuts in with his guitar, Perry's vocals being all spectacular 'n' shit...

Not gonna lie, a tear fell from my eye when Neal's solo cut in the first time I ever heard SSC. Simply majestic.

I had the opportunity to play that acoustically with Jon in CA as well as "Easy to Fall" with Neal and Jon. Was awesome! An unforgetable experience.

Yes! I've always felt that. He's never looked comfortable with a guitar in hand. That doesn't take away from his rhythm playing, it's just that he doesn't look/act like a guitarist when he steps away from the piano/keys.

THANK YOU!!!!!

That was bugging the shit out of me.... I kept thinking "he reminds me of someone.... damn.... can't think of who...."
You're totally right - that's exactly who he was looking like.

Haven't been a Journey fan long? Twinkletoes has been playing guitar on Wheel, SIL, KOR since he joined the band.

"Plecing it up"- Cool, you're so British!

Been a Journey fan since 78 and I'm well aware that Cain doubles on guitar sometimes. But Chain Reaction and Wheel both need Keys. Stone In Love and KOR are different, they're guitar tunes. He's always played guitar in Keep On Runnin' but not in Wheel and not Chain. Chain Reaction without the keys sounds like crap. Wheel is definitely missing those cool Rollie parts. Also, from the past two shows, Cain's guitar doesn't seem to stay in tune worth a damn.

The original little ad-lib piano parts in Wheel are cool but far from necessary for the song. I think Neal's leads would sound like something was missing without Cain's rhythm guitar behind it.

I just thought of something cool ---

They should keep Cain on keys for SIL, and pluck a random fan out of the crowd at every show to play rhythm guitar.

Come on, every Journey fan knows the rhythm part to SIL. It's easy and fun.

They played it for years that way and it sounds better. It breathes more without the rhythm guitar behind it, especially when it's out of tune.

They could pluck a fan out to play the one note synth part that Perry used to play on it during the solo.
Greenday pulls people up to play guitar and bass on a song. It's hilarious.

Dang, Jeremey! I am totally, unashamedly jealous! It's the one song of Journey's that I've ever heard where I thought "Quiet, Steve, I'm listening to the piano!" LOL - great experience!!!! I bet it wasn't taped or anything.....was it?
