Arrival was my favorite Augeri era disc. Your thougths?

Arrival was solid..

Some great songwriting displayed on this record... Neal really shined on the axe, too. Several of my favorite Journey tunes (Higher Place, Livin' to Do, World Gone Wild, To Be Alive Again, All the Things, Live and Breathe) are Arrival cuts.

It makes my top 5 Journey albums overall list. Too many ballads, but the US tracklisting fixed this a bit. Certainly light years better than Trial By Fire since at least half of it was solid rockers, and overall the songwriting was pretty strong and catchy. I'd rank it ahead of Departure (sorry, side 2 is weak), TBF, or Raised On Radio any day.

"Arrival"? Good album. "Arrival Rules", though? No way.

I like a couple of tracks off of that record. It rules the Augeri era, but that's it. Every Perry era record exept maybe ROR is better.

Pretty good album. Outstsanding musicianship, but Perry's vocals were sorely missed. "A" for musicianship and a "D" for vocals. I give the album a "C."

D for vocals? Ouch.

I've always loved Arrival, and the ballads aren't bad either. I'd rather hear any of the ballads from Arrival than hear Open Arms. At least they all have a soaring Neal solo. Great album and more cohesive than some of the Perry albums to be honest.

Yeah, maybe I was a bit rough. I'll upgrade that to "C." Overall grade goes to a "C+." I try to be honest. Shit, I gave FTLOSM a bad grade and Arnel a D+ or C- on his first gig.

Arrival is pretty much my favorite Journey album - love the songs, Kiss Me Softly is a classic.

Arrivel was a good CD,Thats when Jrny gave a shit and had promise. I think they got discouraged cause it didnt sell, then they gave up, and toured the shit out the band, and burned it out,Shame it had some good tunes,Augeri did a good Job. He was no Perry but who in the fuck is. Im looking forward to his future projects, like Tall Stories

Arrival WAS a great album, but ONLY after they adjusted the track list. I had the pre-released version and it was SLEEPY.
I wonder if they'll ever officially release "I'm not that Way". It was on the early version, but they pulled it off the final version. Not a bad track actually.
Without the rockers, that album would've been only as good as TBF. With the rockers it blows it away. I prefer Arrival to ROR actually. However, the good tracks on ROR are amazingly good, but there are some sleepers there. I think because Arrival was a heavy keyboard/synth album that it kind of dates the sound. I played the shit out of all their albums, so maybe my hindsight is cloudy.

I also liked Generations with the exception of Cain and Valory's tracks. I was always a big fan of "In Self Defense" and was actually psyched that they re-recorded it.

Arrival is weak.
Reminded me more of Survivor than Journey (and that is NOT a good thing).
Although that single "All the Way" sounded more like the Backstreet Boys (again, if you're keeping score, not a good thing).

You sure have a point there. OA is one of just a couple of Perry era Journey songs that I skip over.

They should've turned their tracks over to Augeri. Every Generation's an okay song, but with a decent vocal, it could've been much better. The one about the family is terrible.

not much produced during augeri's tenure at the helm. red 13, generations, and arrival..... there is probably a really good album if you pulled tracks from the 3 and made a single record.

For the most part it's a good record..... could use some more rockers, the ballads are way too sappy. i think "livin' to do" is a great song as well as "we will meet again," and of course "higher place," they should have played more of it live. awwww well, what are you gonna do?

arrival grew on me---yes should have played more of it live... I loved to be alive again, i got a reason, higher place and livin to do.
it could have charted higher than 56 if they would have released at the same time as the release date of Japan and not wait 6 months later.

I agree.. not a bad record, it actually grows on you.
I love "Higher Place".. one of my favorite tunes on there. 8)

I still skip 2-4 tracks on Arrival. Just too many love-sappy ballads in the middle. Some could be good but get overlooked because of the overkill. I liked I'm Not That Way and would have preferred it to many of the other ballads. Remove 2 or 3 tracks, possible add INTW and Remember Me and it would be SMOKIN'. Strong disc that I still rate very high. I would prefer a little better mix, the vocals don't always get out front. I always thought that was because Neal wanted to be heard more, but balance is key.

One of the best Journey albums. Ballad heavy? Sure. This is Journey we're talking about though not Pantera. Ballad heavy aint a bad thing.

I have the Japan version and like the flow better than the US version, largely because I dont care for World Gone Wild. Nothin' Comes Close is excellent, though.

Love All the Way, Livin to Do, Loved by You, With Your Love, Lifetime of Dreams, To Be Alive Again. Arrival's better than a few Perry albums...ROR, Departure, Evolution, IMO anyway. Great album.

Ballad heavy, definitly. But are they good ballads? Indeed they are.

I like Arrival alot, i very really skip over any of those tracks now, minus one or two. Many people dont like it but i'm a fan of the way Augeri's voice was produced on that album.

Key/synth heavy? Which songs? Most of the songs have Cain on piano.

And for the person asking about the Family track, I think they're referring to the Cain cut "Pride of (in?) the Family," which wasn't on the American release. Japanese only maybe? Possibly Jap/Euro. And yes, not a good track.

Tard, Never Too Late is one of the better tracks on that abysmal CD.

Pride of the Family sucks.

Arrival was a very good effort that got NO promotional push.
Get rid of boring tracks like I'm Not That Way, Loved By You and Lifetime of Dreams
and you have a pretty solid album. Everything else on this album
is on par with, if not BETTER, than ROR and TBF combined.
But that's just my own screwed up opinion

Sure, Augeri was never the vocal monster Perry was, even on ROR and TBF,
but he sounded pretty gosh-darned good here.

Talking about ROR being synth heavy- Suzanne, Eyes of a Woman, Once you love somebody, It Could've Been You- also, lots of synth bass. These are all superb songs, but the synths and syth basses date the material.

Yeah, I gotta agree. Never Too Late is a GREAT track. Why wouldn't anybody like that?
Pride of the Family is crap.
