Hmmm, what is "Never Walk Away" which group did that one, I don't think I've ever heard that before

It's not just you. The songs are practically interchangeable. I've raised this issue myself. Some agree, others don't. Personally, I don't see how anyone can't. It's pretty obvious what went on here.

For Vladan-

Be Good to Yourself

Never Walk Away ("new" song on the upcoming album)

Wow! Too close for comfort, but still a pretty good tune

These things happen after writing music for over 30 years. Good Journey tune anyway thats all that matters, and BGTY is a mighty fine Journey song. If the song sounded like a knock off of "Gone Crazy" - then we would have a problem

OMG a song from Journey that...are you ready for this? Sounds like a Journey song!

Or it's a song that.... are you ready for this? Sounds like a knock off of a hit song Journey already made once before!

Sorry, I don't buy your argument. It doesn't apply here. A line was crossed. This is plagiarism through and through.

Remember Me sounded like a Journey tune but wasn't a knock off of one of their hits. Not one song from infinity to ROR had this problem. All the songs were original but sounded like Journey.

I can definitely hear on clips where they sound alike, but I didn't hear that while listening to it live. Doesn't matter to me, I like it.

Melissa,
With all due respect, you're a die hard. Someone who posts on a message board and goes to travel to a show outside your own state.

The more casual Journey fan or previous fan who knows their hits, hasn't been interested in Journey since Perry left (ie. the majority) and opts to pick up this album at walmart based on buzz they're hearing about Arnel, are for sure going to have a problem with it.

It will be a turn off and hurt Journey's chances of retaining that fan. Bad move at a time when Journey are trying to retain their fanbase or hopefully entice those who left after Trial by Fire.

Let's not forget, Trial by Fire sold a million copies without a tour after the band had been gone for almost 10 years. That can't be said of Arrival, Red 13 or Generations and that was two to three singers ago. Now Journey finally have a singer who can do the legacy justice and instead of really making a go of it, they take a corporate mentality and repeat what they've already done because they know that one worked before? That's business planning, not artistry and it deserves scorn.

If Survivor recorded this same song, Journey could sue them and win for plagiarism. It's that close.

And T-Bone! Of course it's a great tune. It was a great turn when it was Be Good To Yourself! :D

I see similarities but I don't think they're outright copies of one another.

Actually I'm not exactly a diehard  , I never followed the Augeri-era, last Journey purchase was TBF. Didn't even know they had released albums with Augeri until I started following them again when JSS came onboard because I've been a fan of his for a while.

I understand & see what you're saying though 8)

I'd say Message of Love has similarities to Separate Ways but isn't an outright copy. This one is.

Sure, they changed the lyrics and gave it a new solo. But the chord changes, the vocal melodies, the vocal harmonies are identical. Hell, even the tempo of the song is practically the same. If you don't think they're outright copies, I have to say you have an abnormally high threshold of what would define a copy. Someone who isn't as big a fan won't have as high a threshold, I guarantee you.

Nope. I like it too. Journey has had many different sounds in 30+ years and I appreciate them all.

I think the opposite will be the case, ST. Only the diehards are really going to notice how close it is to BGTY. Most of the casual or previous fans probably aren't even going to notice. Sure they might think it sounds familiar, but most will just say..........that's Journey, great tune.

Sure it sounds a lot like BGTY, but not plagerism worthy. Personally, I don't give a rats ass, I like it!

Actually, I just watched the YouTube vid and it's the clearest, cleanest clip of that song I've seen/heard yet.

With the background vocals and chord changes more overall prominent in this one....

....I'm sold, they're damn close.

WOW... I Agree with Deb. Casual fan barely knows the words to BGTY, so they can hardly tell musically what's going on. I said that at the concert, I can sing words to BGTY and it fits inside NWA. But then I hear shit like that all the time. My wife liked Rick Astley, the Blue-eyed soul singer from the UK who sang Never Gonna Give You Up and followed that hit with Together Forever. It's the same song but different.
Actually, if you think really hard, you can do the same thing with Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer and Belinda Carlisle's Heaven Is A Place On Earth.

But having said that, that is now 6 songs that sound like 3 songs but are released as 6 songs. Are you lost yet?
I'm not but this would be a more fun discussion in person. 8)
