Sad, but true!

A sign of the times unfortunately. I haven't been in a "record shop" to shop for music in a long time...only gift certificates. Honestly the last shop I found was FYE and I really didn't see anything that grabbed my interest. Anything that I liked I already had. I'm almost forced to purchase from Amazon and iTunes.

I miss the days of hanging out at the mall, grabbing lunch, and buying the latest and greatest cd/tape/record whatever at Tape Town. P.S. Those Sasperilla drinks were a killer....

I hear ya. The music was better then, too! Out here we have a place called Record & Tape Traders that sells new and used CD's. They have a fantastic selection of hard to find artists. I love browsing around in there sometimes.

Nikki, I would go there once a week, but mine closed down recently. I loved the t-shirts. Got a Sammy & the Wabos shirt there.

I distinctly remember the day when Frontiers came out and having to wait for my dad to get home from work to take me to The Flip Side to buy it. I was pissed because I could have ditched my last class, ran over to the store (it was in a strip mall across from the high school), and gotten back to school in time to catch the bus home. Sometimes honesty doesn't pay!
I spent many of my babysitting dollars at that record store!

I Cant afford to go to a record shop and buy an album. why would I pay 14.50 for a cd when im just gonna put the music on my ipod anyway, and can buy it for 9.99 on itunes, unless its an album that I need a hard copy of, like a journey or Dream theater album.

Perimeter Mall in Atlanta actually had one when I was there 2 years ago.

we have a record store here but it sucks. i hope it goes out of business. it would do every "indie" alternative kid a favor

It's just the latest victim in an industry hit by rising college-town rents, big-box retailers, high CD prices, and - most importantly - a new generation of college students for whom music has become an entirely online, intangible hobby they often don't have to pay for.

I think the musical experience we all grew up to love and enjoy is dying a slow death... The newer generation of musicians is failing to produce stars of the calibre we are used to, and once the kids finally grow out of the illusion that they can still get signed by a label and become rich and famous thru music, much fewer will even try.

For the record, I absolutely support the artists I love by buying their music. We have way too many people who think their little hand in the problem isn't big enough to hurt anyone, but when the majority of kids take the same stance, then you have a real problem.

I can't remember the last time I was in a record store either. I've been buying from ebay or Amazon. I've bought a few from Best Buy, but I just order online for store pick up. Last time I saw a record store, it was a Sam Goody's at the mall...don't know if it's still there.
