I think that's the former Mariners catcher....
;)

The drummer of Semisonic wrote a great book about the music biz "So You Wanna Be a Rock n' Roll Star". Really good book.

Easter Blog in Prog

Minneapolis, being once more covered in snow, overcast and gloomy, is challenging my effort at an Easterish awakening of hope. I know, I know, this holiday is about more than just a sunny day, but I for one have the cabin fever blues.

What a month. With the Hotel Cafe Tour and my opening gig for Kathleen Edwards both coming up, and feeling like I would have little time to write while on the road, I organized a ridiculously frenetic stretch of writing. I might have overdone it. Wrote songs with (in no particular order) Emily Robison & Martie Maguire (Dixie Chicks both), Cory Chisel, Steve Perry (yes, Journey, I'm amazed too,) Kara DioGuardi & John Fields, Will Anderson of Sparky's Flaw, John Hermanson (go Storyhill!), Carrie Rodriguez, Mitch Allan, Nerina Pallot, Michael Tolcher, plus worked on an unfinished song I started with Aimee Mann (still unfinished.) If I'm forgetting anyone, it's because my brain is now completely emptied of thoughts and ideas. Oh, and I mixed both the Jeremy Messersmith and New Standards albums I've been producing.

Steve Perry has gone form hanging out with major league all-stars to hanging out with minor league nobodys. This is like Babe Ruth making a hitting video with David Eckstein. :?

Hey Hollywood, I don't know who you are, but I like the way you introduce yourself with cool news like this.

Welcome.

I think everyone has had "writing sessions" with Perry over the last few years...except Journey.

Dan Wilson won a Grammy for song of the year a few years back and has worked with some pretty high profile artists, so I wouldn't really call him minor league.

Nobody knows who the fuck he is. Hence, he's a minor leaguer.

Plenty of people know who he is, man. Definitely a major leaguer.

Slucero, maybe I'm reading too much into your post, but it seems to me that you indicated I misled the group in some way, and you posted from Dan's blog the exact sentiment I posted. He had writing sessions with Steve Perry. Am I missing something?

I'm a huge Perry and Journey fan and consider Perry to be an amazing artist, and as such he associates himself with other amazing artists.

Dan Wilson was in Trip Shakespeare and then Semisonic. He had a number one hit with his band called 'Closing Time' and wrote a number one hit for the Dixie Chicks. Steve Perry has never had a number one hit. Dan Wilson also won a Grammy for 'Not Ready To Make Nice' and Steve Perry never won a grammy. So saying that someone with a resume such as this is a Minor Leaguer is ridiculous. But hey who am I?

Perry and Dan Wilson are both amazing artists and I hope the product from this relationship will see the light of day.

Yes yer reading too much into my post.... I posted Dan's exact words.... because your sentiment... "sessions" implies "more than one" occurence... Dan didn't say that ... he said he "wrote songs with".... which means something different.

What you wrote could have been easily interpreted to mean something more than Dan wrote. No slam on you bro...

I stand corrected...that song "Closing Time" was pretty darn good. Now I know who he is. A bit monotone, but I still dig it. -1 point for Saint John.
