Velvet Revolver Boots Scott Weiland
Velvet Revolver
April 01, 2008, 5:10 PM ET
Mitchell Peters, L.A.
After feuding publicly for the past two weeks, Velvet Revolver and frontman Scott Weiland have officially parted ways, according to a statement from founding members Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner.
"This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," Slash said in a statement issued today (April 1). "Among other things, his increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."
No further details were available at deadline. Velvet Revolver is in the midst of playing its last show with Weiland at Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.
In the weeks leading up to the split, an online feud erupted between Weiland and drummer Sorum, following recent onstage remarks made by the singer, who reportedly said the European trek would be the band's last ever.
The announcement comes a day after Billboard exclusively revealed details of a reunion tour by Weiland's original band, Stone Temple Pilots. The group is expected to announce its schedule next week during a Los Angeles press conference.
In January, Slash told Billboard.com that Velvet Revolver would begin working on the follow-up to last year's "Libertad" almost immediately after the quintet finished the European tour, but it is unknown how the remaining members plan to proceed.
FUCK...I had tuesday...dammit...Okay. Who Had "Wednesday" in the "GNR REUNION TOUR RUMORS START TODAY" Pool?

Vocalist Scott Weiland has released a statement to MTV News regarding his dismissal from VELVET REVOLVER.
The founding members of VELVET REVOLVER — guitarists Slash and Dave Kushner, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum — announced their decision to fire Weiland in a press release issued at the conclusion of the band's final performance with Weiland in Amsterdam, Holland. Slash cited Weiland's "increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems" as reasons for dismissing him.
In a statement released Wednesday morning, Weiland fired back at his erstwhile bandmates, stating, "After reading the comment by Duff, Matt, Dave and the illustrious 'Guitar Hero,' Saul Hudson, a.k.a. Slash, I find it humorous that the so-called four 'founding members' of VELVET REVOLVER, better known to themselves as 'the Project' before I officially named the band, would decide to move on without me after I had already claimed the group dead in the water on March 20 in Glasgow.
"In response to Slash's comment regarding my commitment [to the band], I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth. The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, fun ... at times. But let's not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member — no need to mention his name).
"Personally speaking, I choose to look forward to the future and performing with a group of friends I have known my entire life, people who have always had my back," Weiland continued. "This also speaks to my commitment to my music and my fellow bandmates in [STONE TEMPLE PILOTS] and to the fans who I feel would much rather watch a group of musicians who enjoy being together as opposed to a handful of discontents who at one time used to call themselves a gang."
In conclusion, Weiland warned fans not to be "fooled by veiled trickery," and even wished VELVET REVOLVER his best. "Good hunting, lads — I think Sebastian Bach would be a fantastic choice."

I liked VR and I love STP, but Weiland has just become a giant fuck-up over the last 10 years.
Not to say that he is the only guilty one though.....

LOL, talk about ensuring every square inch of the bridge is soaked in gasoline, prior to setting the blaze..
Honestly, was anyone deeply moved by Velvet Revolver's mediocre rock music? I guess a relative percentage of the buying public was, at least for the first album. Weiland talks about returning with his original band mates, why did they split up again? *cough* Weiland..

That fruity little untalented prick can take his 102-pound ass back to that god-awful shitsack of a band called Stone Temple Pilots and play Russian Roulette with heroin overdoses until one of those talentless wool cap-and-baggy pants-wearing douchebags takes it too far. Weiland is one of the most over-rated musicians of the latter half of the 20th century - falling into the same category as Kurtis Cobain, Edward Vedder, Jim Morrison, and David Matthews - and is a world-class asshole to boot. The way he disgraced his bandmates and himself at last year's ROR HOF ceremony - with his disrespectful massacring of Diamond Dave's signature Van Halen song - will always remain an unforgivable sin. Hopefully, this reunion of sullen dweebs who stare at their shoes for two hours, flick off the crowd, and then go shoot heroin and drink whiskey, will implode.

Agreed on all counts except for Dave Matthews. Dude can play a solid guitar, though he can't sing a lick.

I'm in the minority here. I've always liked STP, never cared for VR though.
I do think Weiland's got some issues to deal with, doesn't make him a likeable guy.

Awww c'mon.....where would we be without "You gotch yer ball, you got your chaieeeeeen"
He is a good guitar player. He suffers from kind of the same problem Billy Corgan does. He can play a bazillion instruments, yet he chooses to sing. Though in both cases, millions of fans and record sales beg to differ on that opinion.

DUDE! Agreed so much. I listen to a ton of DMB and Smashing Pumpkins because I love the music and some of the lyrics, BUT, sometimes their vocals can REALLY grate on me. It's not as bad as death metal growls or screaming though, now THAT I can't bear at ALL.

If I wore hats, I would tip one to you sir!
I know what you mean about death metal. That growling shit they do......why? Sometimes those bands are capable of playing some killer stuff, but then the vocalist (DEFINITELY not a singer) has to come in and screw it all up.

I always liked STP more than VR. STP had more variety & textures, IMO. Weiland is a good vocalist, if not a strange showman. I thought he sounded great on the VR records.
It had to happen, though...I bet the ego tension in that band was unbearable.

Soto, Slash, Mad Mike, and Virgil Donati or Rod Morgenstien.

Didn't care much for VR... love STP and GnR. Weiland is a mess and always has been, choosing to work with that guy, you bring anything that happens on yourself imo. I also love how everytime a band needs a singer JSS is the solution around here

Slash's riffs need a dynamic frontman that he had in Axl but lacked with Weiland. Slash, meet JSS. JSS, say hi to Slash.

Billy Corgan is a far more dynamic musician and singer than that flapjack Dave Matthews.

This statement is fantastic! I laughed out loud. Weiland's statement makes him sound like a real A-hole.
I would LOVE to hear a JSS/Slash combination!

Agreed.
I like DMB but sometimes I can't tell one DMB song apart from another. That, and I believe the horn player and violinist are the best musicians in that band.

Jesusa, another "JSS in any band but his own" post, can't you people just enjoy JSS without always wanting to put him in "somebpdy else's band" ? ?
VanHalen and JSS, Queen and JSS, Slash and JSS, Journey and JSS, enough!!!! How about JSS and his new solo cd? That works!!
