In the longer clips I get a stronger sense of the feel of the song and I dig it big time as well as Arnel's voice.... PLus we have heard two of them entirely and both are great tunes even if one of them is derived from BGTY. I have not liked anything they have put out since TBF. I could not stand Augeri because I felt more like I was listening to the singer from Air Supply than Journey.. No Balls. Oh I did like Remember Me and Faith in the Heartland and I shit you not that those are the only two songs I liked from the entire Augeri era. Didnt like ROR either.
When I 1st heard the clip of Sunshower I said to myself "That is going to be a great tune." After hearing more of it I like it even more... I am trying to be objective and unbiased and it is possible that the final product may not impress me however I am expecting to be impressed by most of it...
My opinion mirrors most of your own. Remember Me, Faith in the Heartland are a couple of tracks I like enough, but Augeri was always the pits for me. He just doesn't have the vocal talent to hang with Neal and Jon. Arnel is a much, much better choice. From hearing the re-record of FITH, I like it better with Arnel. This reworked version now has an "only the young" vibe while not being derivative (unlike NWA to BGTY which is practically a knockoff).
Where we differ is on ROR. There's a number of tracks in there that I love. Perry really laid down the emotional vocal hammer on them. However, I absolutely believe I'd love those same songs much much more with Ross's understated bass and Smitty's drumming in there. Journey was always about a group, not just a guy. Chemistry is so hard to find when artists collaborate and Journey really had it all across 5 different guys.
From these clips, I think the same thing holds true about Revelation as well. Dean's drumming is pretty weak. He's just not the artist Smitty is and that is now the weak creative link in the band. No place near detrimental as Augeri on vocals, but still it has a subtext affect on the overall song quality.
Overall I'm pretty excited by what I'm hearing. I think there's going to be more songs I'll like than dislike on this release. Arnel was definitely a wise choice.
Thanks for posting the extended clips.
