Neal got jobbed. His guitar needed to be louder.

Also, I don't think Arnel sounds like Perry that much. Which ain't bad. And, I am now officially STOKED!

At risk of this being a redux of the Augeri-era, I'm willing to toss some excuses the band's way.
Namely that they had to shorten SW in length.
Who knows, maybe it threw the guys off.
In any case, this performance, while a step up from the CBS morning show nightmare, still doesn't quite cut it.

Watched it at 9:00 am and Arnel really is awesome, he sounded like it was a studio recording. I watched the you tube clip and it's not the same as when I heard it on the show. The band looked fantastic and Arnel sounded really good. IMO.

I wish em well. Least Arnel has his own type, not 100% Perry

Errrrrr.. edited !!! aaaarrrggghhhh. Wtf man. Arnel a bit flat on the high notes. Nerves ? I dunno man... The way they butchered the length it makes it hard to tell...

The crowd sure seemed to like it, and having spoken to a few of the ladies that were in attendance I can assure you that the crowd was not loaded with Journey fans. It was a typical Ellen crowd and a maybe a dozen Journey fans. I thought it was a very solid performance.

Yeah, it did appear to be edited, as opposed to the band playing a shorter version...

He sounds flat to me a lot. I hate when he adds that fucked up scream on the end of SW.

Nah, I like that. If anything, this band needs to break out of the box and mix things up more, not less.

Sounded pretty good to me, for the most part. There weren't a lot of effects on the vocals there, though, which I like.

What nightmare? Did something happened? I haven't heard anything about this, seriously.

I believe he's referring to the CBS morning show with Augeri several years back - wasn't pretty...

That's a note not a scream, and there aren't too many people that could even come close to hitting it.

Shit, back in the day that was Perry's low register.

i'll watch my recording when I get home, but based on the You Tube version, I liked it! it's freaking mind blowing to me that Journey is on TV! :D

Neal's guitar ALWAYS needs to be louder... even on their albums.

This performance blows the def leppard ones out of the water. Sounds good, except for the ending. I'd be curious to know if this was the first or last track they recorded for the show.

Wow..

I'm impressed for the first time.

EDIT: Anyone notice the Tapegate-esque microphone Deen was wearing?

yeah, his pitch was a bit off on the last note, bummer. I don't mind him going up, just want him to hit the pitch. I seem to remember Journey's Tom Snyder performance where the whole arrangement was also f'd up. Bands RARELY sound good on tv live. Journey's Friday's appearance with Rolie's a notable exception.

Ellen's pretty stoked. Awesome. I also dug how Neal pointed at Arnel at the end. It's live on TV, they did fine. it could've been better (mixed better) could've been a hell of a lot worse. The people that hate Arnel are still going to hate him, have no fear.

Another Video - not great quality (looks recorded off of the TV screen), but includes AATY - starts around the 4:09 mark:

After All The Years got edited big time...only got to hear about a minute's worth give or take....That's their new fuckin single for cripe sakes, they should have featured that one! :?

Now for the crituqe as a die hard Journey fan:

After hearing SW on TV, I have changed my opinion about Anrel's peformance on this song on Ellen. The TV sounded so much better than Youtube. Arnel kicked a** on this song, ya minus the one or two notes here and there..but that was nerves.

Faithfully sounded awesome, Arnel sounded crisp and clear. Arnel truly has magic in that voice.

After All These Years, before it was cut off with credits, sounded fantasitic!

The band as a whole sounded really great!!

Bring on Rockline!!
