Arnel was woefully flat on a lot of SW's higher notes, but sounded fine on the other two...

It's interesting - I don't "get" the older classics from Arnel, but when they are doing the new songs I'm floored.

It would have been nice to have AATY sung in its entirety without the American Airlines plug by Ellen at the end.... :?

I know, you'd think management would have insisted on that as a stipulation of their appearance on Ellen, to promote the new single and play that song in it's entirety.

When it comes to high-profile, highly-rated shows like Ellen, it's the show that calls the shots. Just the way it works.

Unfortunately the band needs Ellen more than Ellen needs the band to appear. Doubt management was in any position to demand or require anything from the producers of the show. They got a song and a half on the air..and another full song for the web site audience. That's a hell of a lot more than most artists get on a single talk show. They should be happy with the exposure and move on to the tour...

The large looming spectre of Steve Perry claims another victim.
Noone who isn't a die-hard of this lineup is going to walk away from this performance forgiving.
Kinda reminds me why the band ceased doing TV appearances altogether.

How do you live down the hits on the radio?

I have to agree with you on this one, TNC. Arnel is incredibly talented and has a phenominal voice, but something is missing for me on the older songs. I'll have to give a listen to the new songs when the CD comes out. Maybe they will win me over. I hate to say it, but the accent is still an issue for me. Maybe I'm over analyzing, but it's still really obvious to me.

I thought most of it sucked {Sep Ways] Especially the ending, He went flat then tried to go up ,I dont think he knew where he was going with that last note. Way to go Neal

Yeah, I'm hearing the accent really heavily too on Separate Ways and somewhat on Faithfully. I think he's got a good voice, but it just doesn't mesh with the hits like Augeri's did. After All These Years sounds good though - there's not decades of singing along to it to compare it to, like the classics.

It really needed to be all of AATY and they could ad over anything else. This should be about NEW material! Less comparison...

I think that's my sentiment as well. They should've sang the two new releases from the new album then one classic (which would've been interrupted by the ads.)

Arnel is impressive on the new stuff, not so much on the classics.

Yeah, as far as I'm concerned, they didn't take advantage of promoting their new stuff. To me, it's a sign of trying to cash in on the past instead of focusing on the present (which is what always seems to divide Journey fans anyways.)

The Flaws just aren't there for me. I really try to pick SOMETHING that I don't like about this guy, but Arnel is spot-on to me. What a great performance all 'round. The little guy really is proving his worth after all. Me= excited for some more Journey. Hells yes.

(EDIT) : There is a topic about this already but I'll edit this post while I'm here. The Cmon's.. MUST GO...by the rate he's goin, I'd be happy for him to cut it down to 5 times a song! haha Cmons are good at times, but Arnel goes wild with it. Cut it down brotherin.

I thought that was a really good showing!!! Even good ol' Cain was smiling at the reaction! Of course, I would have loved to have the entire version of AATY, but I guess the promotional train is just leaving the station. SW was a pretty good surprise, and other than the required editing, they did great! :D

Hopefully this time around Azoff and company will do it right, and I REALLY can't stress that enough.

Maybe some people are happy, and they didn't like it at the same time? Is that okay? Or do we have to just throw streams of glowing comments about the performance because it's 'Journey' and we should just be happy they were on TV? I think most of the criticisms were constructive and not meant to be mean or hateful.
