Unbelievable...our local CBS affiliate has somehow been knocked off the air, or maybe they all just are asleep over there, but right after the first tease of the Journey feature..bam! Gone. Once again, I am relegated to YouTube. Much like Neal, I guess. 8)

I just watched it. I thought the piece was well done. Arnel really had a tough life growing up.

I thought it was really a good segment. Very kind to Journey; lots of clips from the Vegas show; most appreciative of Perry's legacy. And Arnel's story...tears all around. Sorry Drew's footage didn't make it, but it was a fine job nonetheless.

Watch youtube, I'm sure someone will post the Journey part soon.

Very interesting. I thought it made the band look like jerks, with the whole, replacing Perry bit. But Arnel saved the day with his story. And what a great story it is. I had tears in my eyes.

Dropping in to say what a lovely little segment about Journey on CBS Sunday Morning. I really love this show and they did a very respectful piece on the band and its legacy.

Arnel seems to be a sweetheart and I wish him well on his, uh, journey with this band.

A great piece, not much more to be said! Of course it would have been better with Andrew footage, but I thought everything else was perfect. They did a nice job of showcasing the Perry legacy while highlighting what the new band has accomplished.

Good piece but sad at the same time. I felt Arnel's pain when talking about him Mom. I hope that Neal doesn't tell him to get over it like he did Steve.

Assorted thoughts....

Arnel came off as a very sincere guy. Charming and suprisingly English fluent, an impression I wasn't left with after the severe hemming and hawing in the Rockline interview.

Not sure how heavy an influence Perry's gang of shysters had regarding this, but his mark seems all over it. Like VH1 BTM, it was produced and written decisively favoring one side of history. There's a mention of the band waiting a year for him to get hip surgery and throwing him out, but absolutely no mention of him holding up the works since ROR.

Ross came off absolutely shameless in his attempts to marry Journey-now to Journey-then.
Practically falling over himself to make the dishonest claim that the band is now "picking up right where it left off" and finally the "magic is back."
Way to sell the past decade of your life down the river, Ross.

Since Arnel came into the fold, the band has given up it's 1998 rationale for moving on in the first place - that the band was larger than the sum of its parts.
Instead, Jon, Ross, and Neal have resigned themselves to the idea that they were nothing more than King Perry's fiddlers three.
It is as self-destructive a PR approach as I have ever witnessed.

Also, the reporter/producer was totally out of bounds in saying the band didn't capture the magic with their last two singers (as two blurry thumbnails of JSS and SA graced the screen). When Arnel's album bombs or fails to meet expectations, will his era be just as unceremoniously relegated to the gutter heap?
If this gloss-over approach to Steve Augeri initiated from management on down (as is likely), it should give fans a clue as to just what unsavory characters we are dealing with here.

I was just gonna call and wake you guys up to make sure you got to see it...
Excellent coverage and exposure for Journey...
My step daughter in Philly just called to say she loved Arnels voice, but had gotten away from the band she loved because she didn't like the lead singer(Augeri) but is really interested in them again.

Lula hugs and kisses for Wyatt...don't let him bit you with his new teefers!!!

hi carol!! so excited to see you and norm 8) Wyatt can't wait to hold you!

arnel seems to be a sincere and sweet guy, i hope his new 'brothers' don't take that quality away. i'll refrain from saying anything else as it's not exactly nice.

Great exposure. They even showed SA and JSS. Albeit in "never caught on" light.

Arnel took me by surprise with his open show of emotion about his mom. I thought Neal was gonna reach over and hug the lil guy right there and then. Glad he didn't, that would've been too much love on national tv. :)

All in all, this has been quite a TV week for the band. Now to canvass the local Wal for the cd.

I saw alot of revisionist history in their recall of Augeri and Soto.

Revisionist History #1: When they talked about wanting to go back out on the road, but didn't have a singer....WTF was that about? They had a singer! His name was Soto. They basically ditched him (but just forgot to tell him to his face).

Revisionist History#2: Augeri and Soto didn't capture the magic.? Whether you or I personally liked what they did or not, I remember them both having a pretty decent fan following. No present day singer in this band will have a Perry-era following. Why try to portray that Arnel is now THE shit, when Augeri and Soto were also both portrayed the same way, in THEIR tenure?

Revisionist History#3: Ross said "the magic is back". Made it sound like Perry just brought all his songwriting experience and vocal prowess back to the band. Truth is....Arnel hasn't written jack with them yet and his vocal prowess is not yet road tested for even one lousy tour. I always thought "the magic" that all the Journeymen used to fondly speak of was the songwriting partnership of Cain, Perry and Schon.

It's 2008 folks....time for this year's take on Journey's "history".

Thanks for posting the clips...sucks that I missed it, trust me..I've called my local affiliate asking if they plan on re-airing sinc they dropped the original feed. Good feature. There will always be areas where it could have been a better/more accurate depiction..but this was about as balanced as I've seen given that they actually addressed a number of the issues that band seemed always afraid to talk about publicly.

I recorded what I thought was CBS Sunday Morning and it only ended up being 2 hours worth of local news.

I also recorded the show Boston was supposed to be on and my daughter stopped the DVR seven minutes into the show when she turned the TV on this morning.

I also found it a bit interesting to see the parallels between Perry's relationship with his mom and Arnel's.

Most of it was about the tornado that hit an apartment complex in Indianapolis yesterday, which is just a few miles southeast of us.
