FREEDOM!

Okay Neal, Jon.. I know you guys are scoping the forum to see what's going down, how your new album is faring with the hardcores... pulling one off to ttango1's avatar, yeah yeah, what we all usually do here.

But anyway....

...how's about finally getting around to that Freedom record next? Put out the type of album everyone expected to come after Frontiers. There's alot of us out here that need some "closure," to hear the ideas that could've been Freedom and some other awesome new songs along those lines. You've got an amazing vocalist guys, Arnel is the tits.... so channel 1984 in your heads and bring to mind the early Freedom sessions... and just bring the fans' dream to life.

Looking forward to Revelation for the time being though. 8)

Interesting. Do you think they had something in mind for Freedom back in 84 that they didn't already use on Arrival, Generations, Red13 and now Revelation? I'd like to think that if they did have some sketches or ideas, they'd have rushed to use them on Arrival, no?

I thought this thread was gonna be about "Braveheart". What a disappointment.

Perhaps, but then again everything they've done since then have been from out from under the umbrella of Herbert management.

Every account I've heard has said that there were indeed songs and demos cut for Freedom that were scrapped completely when RoR kicked off, and haven't been dusted off (that i know of) since then.

I think someone here once said that the two Time3 instrumentals were part of the Freedom demos...

Really? The demo with Perry's vocal sketches on With a Tear had that whole ROR vibe to me. Drums didn't feel like it was Smitty on a kit, rather they seemed like a drum machine. The bass felt more like Randy Jackson than Ross and I know both Ross and Smitty were around for the very beginning of ROR.

Although I would love to see Neal and Jon go back to the vibe of those instrumentals and build a whole album of material like it with Arnel. Then again, I'd love it if Smitty were in the group. :?

I kinda feel like it wouldn't be right without Herbie. Wasn't it his master plan?

I don't think he means call it Freedom so much as revisit the material and direction they were sketching for the album. Actually, I think it would be a nice nod to Herbie on Neal's part to call the album Freedom. I think Herbie would appreciate that.

I firmly believe the Journey canon isn't complete without a Freedom album, whether it has a nod to the material that could've been, or not.

Revelation in fact should've been Freedom, a direct reference to them finally escaping from Perry's legal wranglings.
