FITHL just kicks ass to me. Since I never heard more than a little bit of the original it is a new song to me and I dig it big time. So, I decided to listen to the original and grabbed it from ... Somewhere......

I just dont get you guys liking the original better at all. Flat sounding ? Man to me it KILLS the original because Arnel's is about a billion times more powerful. The end of the song where he is singing "Give me something to believe" in high tenor I think sounds so fucking right. The original sounds like the "intruder" to me. I am glad they redid it..

Then they go in to this progressive sounding jam out at the end... Fucking a man...

That song just rolls my joint ya know... The original with Dipty Doo Perm Poodle... Sorry.. Never liked Augeri's singing at all. I hear he is a real nice guy though....

I can respect your opinion but vehemently disagree.

They fruited up the song, that's the diff. Say what you will about Arnel vs. Augeri, but I'll bitch to my deathbed about the added deedle-dee before the chorus and the fruity synth shit dripped all over it.

I like Augeri s better,Its more grittier and on time, plus that Yeahhhhhhh is him , he did a simular thing in Tall Stories , the song has much more drive. Im digging the other tunes

I think both versions are pretty atrocious. Boring as hell.

I like the original better overall, mostly because of the live raw feel that Kevin Shirley didn't like. But there are some places where this is better. Arnel hits some of the words a lot harder and better, and I actually like the keys at the end.

Some of the Star Wars laser sounds in this (and Change for the Better) are fucking annoying to me though.

Wow, you didn't like Augeri, so it is a big surprise that you like FITH better with Arnel. Not being a dick, just stating the obvious here. The Generations version had more of a raw, live feel to it. This version is much more polished. Not bad, but IMO, Augeri did a very good job on that tune.

The guitar and drum solo at the end of FITH on Generations is one of my favorite Journey solos. I could listen to it all day.

BUT... this new version... pales in direct comparison to the first one. It's chopped up and skewed, the "flow" seems more interrupted, Friga's piano is higher in the mix AND it drowns out the prog jam at the end with its fruity bubbling. PLUS Arnel's vocals, while good, lack the DELIVERY that Augeri had. Augeri's the shit.

I'm with Drummer on this one. The new version has more of an Only the Young vibe now and I prefer it this way. The original was an unpolished rocker. Granted, I was never an Augeri fan in Journey. I didn't feel any chemistry there. He's more suited to the kind of stuff he did with Tall Stories. Simple straight up rock. Arnel is more of a crooner and that's what Journey needs if they're seeking what they were with Perry.

I think Augeri's version of FITH is one of Journey's best overall songs. It's in my personal top 10 and it's a top 25 Journey tune, unbiasedly.
