European Tour starts tomorrow - 6/8 in Madrid

Looking forward to seeing the setlists and hearing the bootlegs. There are usually some good tapings that come out of Europe. I'm hoping for 4 songs from Revelation since they'll have more stage time than they will on the US Tour.

Good question. On the rockline interview, I think Ross said they'll have an hour and a half on the US tour. Curious to see how much of the new stuff makes it into the set list.

Yeah, in a 90 minute set I'm realistically thinking 3 songs from Revelation. Potentially 4. On the Euro Tour I'm thinking they'll play a few more.

90 minutes is plenty. Friga...eliminate your tribute to Liberace estrogen filled intros during Faithfully and Open Arms. Neal...please do not play your way-too-fucking-long Star Spangled Banner bullshit. Have Arnel stick to singing and if you average 4.5 minutes per song you can squeeze 18-20 songs.

NOTE TO BAND- Learn to end your fucking songs. The extra guitar and drum pounding takes all the momentum away. End the songs somewhat abruptly and let the crowd roar. You guys add 30-40 fucking noise filled seconds to every ending. NO ONE wants to hear that shit.

The following formula will allow you to play 12-13 hits and 6-7 new songs. Comprende? 8)

Let' see....
Hates Patiently - check
Hates the Depature album - check
Hates Faith in the Heartland - check
And now, added to this growing list of Journey cardinal sins is "jamming"- which is pretty much the Santana offshoot's birthright.

By the time you’re through, the band would bear even less of a resemblance to Journey than it did during ROR (if such a thing is possible).
If not guaranteeing instant career suicide, at the very least, your ideas promise to denature what it is about the band that fans love.

Nobody likes that noise pounding bullshit at the end of their songs. By the time they're done most people don't even want to clap. I've been to over 30 shows in the last 10 years. You?

I do, I think the extended ending to WITS is a phenom. Just my little tiny insignificant opinion though. :D

All those Friga intro's, guitar solo', drum outro's, etc. help the singer keep his voice. Better pray for LOTS of em, not less! :D

I do. It's called being 'bombastic' which is half the point of this band.

The WITS ending is the shit.

I'm one of MANY who love "noise pounding bullshit."

If anything, "noise pounding bullshit" can ADD to the applause at the end of songs, ESPECIALLY if it's Deen double-kicking it up.

Agreed - he needs to return to the Vangelis/Wakeman style grandiosity he displayed on the ROR tour...

Haven't listened to ROR boots.

Does he really?

And if not...

LMFAO.

The band already over-accomodates to the casual listener by playing the dirty dozen.
If Neal can't break free of the shackles for even a little bit, he might as well pack it up and go home.
"Voodoo Child" wasn't added to the set by fan request, it was to keep Neal sane.

Saint John wrote:By the time they're done most people don't even want to clap.

If the fair-weather fans get to hear the hits, they will stay.
Neal re-tweaking and extending the solos every year is about the only thing keeping the shows interesting at this point.

Because of some arbitrary number that signifies nothing more than your willingness to fritter money away, the band should turn its back on their very claim to existing?
It’s a jam band, you deaf asshole.

*claps*

I bet St. John was reaching for the noose about three minutes into the Vegas 2001 performance of "La Raza De Sol" knowing what was coming.

Agreed. Let Friga do his interludes. We damn sure don't want to blow out another set of vocal cords. Not this set for sure.

No - seriously Prog - say what you like about the ROR era not being 'Journey enough' but that keyboard solo was much more grand and majestic than any solo from Cain or Rolie on the previous tours.

Sweet, so it really is a good key solo? I'll have to look up some boots then. Thanks.

lol That "arbitrary number" allows me to speak from experience. The ovation to the ballads and Separate Ways as it is currently being sung elicit a much more robust and enthusiastic round of applause than the momentum killing tirade of noise that round out the other songs. Not to mention that they would be able to squeeze at least 2 more songs in per show...something people would much rather have.

So?
This is a standard response at most concerts to self-indulgent jamfests.
But, hey, most die-hards like it, and most of all, it allows the band to stay entertained.
In return, they can continue to soldier on playing the "classics" which have effectively become the bane of their existence.

As a self-described hardened veteran of the Journey touring circuit, I shouldn’t have to tell you that the band modifies their set list every tour in direct relation to crowd response. They know what flies and what doesn't. As pointed out above, it's not just about what the fans wants to hear, but what allows them to get through the night alive. A bored band makes for a boring show.

Ditto. Anything and everything the band can do to change things up in a creative way is part of the "live" experience. Who wants to hear a duplicate of the studio recording?

Then do stuff within the song ala WITS. I have no problem with that. Or jam the fucking house down ala La Raza Del Sol (Fuck you, Prog. I like that jam, too) or The Party's Over, but that garbage can sounding drum bashing and guitar squealing shit after the end of the songs is neither audio friendly nor artistic. It's shit...plain and simple.
