IMO this is the single most interesting thing a past or present member of Journey have done since the Behind The Music documentary.

I edited the Podcast file to include only the SP interview and uploaded it here.

Nothing really newsworthy. SP and the interviewer discuss the new found popularity of DSB. That's pretty much it. I believe someone pointed out that the interviewer said he is working on a solo album. That may have been in one of the sound bytes leading up to the interview.

There's an edit at 33:22. They started talking about 'people miss your voice', 'we need you', and then the end of the interview jumps in. I wonder what isn't included in this podcast. ???? He does finally finish with a comment about working on solo material.

Also, why does Perry have to say he owes somebody money when getting a compliment?

later~

Steve says....That song (dsb on the 81dvd) is getting the live response now that it did when it was new. I thought he didnt listen to the guys ?? How would he know ? Obviously he is watching from afar and is listening to them. That is how i take that comment.

Absolutely he is. And probably always has been. Curiosity has killed more than one cat, and Mr. Perry is at the end of the day, human.

Thanks for posting. I enjoyed the interview. I like finding out about the nuts and bolts involved with projects and this gave some nice history on the song. All of the artists involved should be proud that the song has stood the test of time and is as strong now as it was back then. From a creative standpoint, that is instant and well deserved gratification. Kudos to the boys on that. The emotion that came when speaking of his mother is 100% genuine, and I respect that. He was very fortunate to have a strong family bond. When you have that, there is nothing better in life, and when you lose that it is total devastation. Believe me, I know.
Sure, the interview wasn't what so many of us are waiting to hear, but the interview did end with a mention of him working on solo material. All things are pointed in a positive direction.

Thank you Rick, I was hoping someone would extract that so that I didn't have to always search for it within the podcast. I'm one happy loon!

No, it wasn't the "big announcement" that people had hoped for, but it is so nice to just hear him talk about the songs we all love so much. I am always amazed at his vulnerability and not afraid to show it. It is what makes us loons feel like we really know the guy.

Anyway, what was I saying.....

thanks again, Rick!

That's very true and you'd think that if SP didn't want that said, he'd tell them to go back and edit it out.

That has to be considered a good sign, doesn't it?

"Working on" and "planning to release" are two different things. All he said was that SP was working on solo material. I won't give it much thought until I at least hear of a legitimate release date. And then I'll still be skeptical until I actually have the physical CD in my hands.

Absolutely, it is. Here is my take on it.

Judging from what I heard in that interview yesterday, I don't think the release of that CD has anything to do with the CD itself. I believe the CD is in the can.

My humble opinion is that it has more to do with Steve's state of mind and the struggles he is enduring with the whole getting back in the spotlight thing. I think he knows that by doing that he ressurects some of his demons and he is struggling with whether he can successfully do it without "toasting" himself out again. I believe he really wants to. I also think he doesn't have a whole lot of confidence in himself. His mom gave him that confidence because she believed so much in him. He doesn't have that support now.

But, like I said, it's just my opinion. And I'll wait faithfully without judgment and downgrading.

The guy from all accounts is very suave when it comes to money and the increase in catalog sales along with other things has surely perked his interest enough to see what's going on with his bank account balance getting bigger than normal. Let's face it, if he does come out of retirement and release something he will bombarded with Journey specific questions. To say he doesn't have any idea who is singing for them or the renewed interest in the band would come out as a bold face lie.
He doesn't have to endorse any of the replacement singers, nor should he. He can just acknowledge that the MUSIC is still very popular and he was a part of the team 25 years ago that created it. He doesn't have to say anything more when it comes to Journey other than he'll see them when or if they ever get a HOF nod.

Thank you for the link.

As for the "I owe you money" comments, I think it's just a verbal tic he has (sort of like some of the comments you expect from some here).

SP's mother must have been a wonderful person...he was so lucky!
