Journey in Rockford, IL on Tuesday August 18

After watching this video that Isla posted from the Pala show on July 29th, I'm determined to see Journey on this tour even though they're not playing anywhere close to me. Arnel and the band are sounding better than ever right now! So I've talked a few friends into driving three hours upstate to Rockford, Illinois to catch them on Tuesday, August 18. Is anyone else planning to attend this show? Surely some of our Chicagoland forum members will be there?

Cool. Is there a good place to meet up and hangout before the show?

If you're in town the night before there's a good local band (7th Heaven) playing at John Barleycorn. Not too far away and a great place to see a live show. The day of the actual event, Saturday, I have no idea. But I'm sure we can figure something out.

How about this place? Google Maps shows it as being only 256 ft. from the Metro Center:

P.S. - Isn't August 18 a Tuesday?

Bar looks like a cool place to meet. Not sure what you mean by August 18th, though.

The Rockford show is Tuesday, August 18: http://www.metrocentre.com/tickets/events/

StubHub has some great ticket deals on this show. But take note that section Floor 2 is behind Floor 1, not next to it.

Hopefully the cheap margaritas will offset the cost of the flight from London.

I was confusing JTTC and the Journey concert. Apologies.

I appreciate the invite, but unfortunately I don't mix well with the bar scene (for personal reasons). Thanks again though. It'll be nice to talk to some of you guys on here after the show just to share on the experience.

I could be wrong and this probably has nothing to do with him. But I have many friends who don't go to bars b/c they can't be around alcohol. and the bar environment isn't healthy for them.

Well...maybe it's because I've had to deal with my mom's alcoholism for too many years, heard enough bitching from my grandma about her dead husband being an alcoholic, and now I'm watching my sister go down that same path. Plus being dependent on a damn pill everyday doesn't mix well with booze.

PS - Thanks Jana

Hey, PianoMan, it is really ok to make your own choices....that I'm sure you understand. There have been times in my life when I drink and times I don't. When I choose not to drink, I'd rather not be around drunk people, but that's just me. The flipside of that is that you can go into a bar and drink non alcoholic beverages and still have a good time. Maybe those who want you to meet up with them do not intend to get sloppy drunk, maybe just a social drink or two. If that is the case, maybe you could consider going just for some friendship, if you know what I mean.

I tied one on hard last night and woke up wondering why I ever do that to myself. I don't drink very often, and when I do I try to stick to beer. I found out last night that Bud Lights and Jägerbombs definitely don't mix well together... at least not the next morning. It wasn't the worst one ever, but as I get older it does seem a little like self-inflicted punishment at times... but how easily and quickly we forget about the bad times and remember only the good. It's like the gambler that forgets losing and only remembers winning.

Hey, if some of us can hookup somewhere - great. If not, don't feel bad. I'll be driving three hours to get there, and I have three people coming up with me and they will have to cut out of work early. Plus we will be driving back right after the show to get home by 3:00am.

So, who's all going to this show tomorrow night other than the ones who already posted? It looks like a lot of the Illinois folks already went to see them in Indianapolis.

I don't think we're going to make it there early... it's a 3-hour drive from where I am, and one of the guys that is riding with us can't get off work until the last minute.

I'm really looking forward to this show... I haven't seen them with Arnel yet, and this show will be indoors with air conditioning - no rain or heat to deal with!
