I am thinking "The Party's Over" should have been held over for Escape. Perry always thought this should have been a bigger hit, and I think had it been on Escape it would have been.

I think it would fit with the overall sound of Escape as the last track, following Open Arms pretty well.

Granted, it would have screwed with the timing on Cassettes, but who gives a rip.

Thoughts?


P.S. What year was Liberty recorded? Why was it not on an album?

I agree The Party's Over would have been a great finish to the Escape album.

Liberty came out of the Frontiers recording sessions so sometime in 82' or so.

TPO's very ESC4P3esque, I aree it should've been held over for that album.
According to HH perry pushed hard for it to be a single off of Captured though. It's totally different than the '78-'80 music on the rest of Captured.

One of my all-time favorite Journey songs. That groove Smitty lays down over Neal's funky riff in the beginning is just great and Perry's sublime on this one... not to mention it's downright catchy.

that would've been a cool way to end the album i agree.have the party's over directly after open arms.it would've fit perfectly on escape.

A simply timeless song with some of Perry's best vocals. A+ for everyone involved. There are a few live versions of this song with some mind bending axe work from Neal.

Closed with it a lot on the Escape tour, including the version that ended up on the official release of the Houston '81 cd.

IMO, "The Part's Over" doesn't sound anything like the rest of the stuff on "Escape". To me, it sounds more similar to "After the Fall" on "Frontiers".

Never thought about that, but it does have a similar feel, though I like TPO infinitely more.

Almost makes me wanna cry watching that clip, looking back and comparing it to other music since, at the time I don't think many of us saw just quite how freakin' talented those 5 guys were together. Unreal!

Back in '81, I was 12 and lived in Chattanooga. Journey performed in Knoxville. Like you said, if I had known then what I know now, I would have worked my butt off to pay for my ticket, and pay for someone else's AND their gas to drive me there. So I missed a day or two of school

I will never get over the opportunity I missed by not going to that show.
