Cool!

I've just opened a topic with the "Human Feel" song, but I've deleted already... :)

I prefer Human Feel I think. I really dig it. Both are probably top 10 post-Perry songs...but not top 5.

haven't heard HF yet...
So, if these are singles, why is their record company giving them away? that seems kinda nutty Beav.

...I'm know I'm showing my ignorance here...Again...but I still don't know the difference between Wav and MP3. Do I really care? How about a fairly simple explanation?

I'm not sure. If everything isn't on the up and up, we'll know soon enough.

Wav files aren't compressed generally so you get to hear the music much closer to the way it should sound originally in the studio. When you make a file smaller, like an Mp3, you have to sacrifice some quality which tends to be some highs and some lows.
A lot of people don't care or can't hear the difference anyway but for some of us the higher fidelity recording is what we want.

Human Feel slays COH so far. Definitely has more of an edge, at least to me. It's all about the percussion in this song.

We have to remember that these are edits and that the album versions are probably going to really bring everything together.

Definitely. Thanks for linking, Don.

I think COH is the more Journey sounding tune, but HF is pretty cool too. Kind of reminds me of an album cut as opposed to a single. No problem with that!

Human Feel vs. City of Hope:

Human Feel for sure. I'm really excited to hear how it can stand up to Edge of the Moment

But how does it stand up to Edge of the Blade? Not even close.

After spending the last few days with City of Hope, it's cool instrumentally for sure. But, where is the song? It's all prechorus. There is no release. The "chorus" starting with the City of Hope lyrics sounds like a prechorus or a bridge. There needed to be something that soared and got bigger and catchier after that part. The full song won't cure that, I can tell that by the basic melody and structure of the song.

Only been through Human Feel once, so thoughts reserved for later.

Great summarization. You explained the problem with COH way better than I ever could.
I'm sure you're right about the edits as it's probably Neal's guitar work getting neutered more than anything else.
If it is the outro solos being hacked, these songs are suffering the fate that WCN avoided when it made it to radio.

I was thinking that too - the transition from Verse to Chorus seemed like a shortcut or lazy.

Loving Human Feel. The vocals are secondary with this song, it's all about the beat.

Doesn't make any sense to just release the tracks freely? No direct links on Frontier's website...not that I'm complaining...I plan to buy the album and blast the hell out of it once I do...

Very well said. Thanks. It's not bad by any stretch, it's just missing that vital hook to sink your teeth into.

All I can say is I got the initial link from the status update area on the homepage of Journey's official website. If there's a problem, the band need look no further than their own front door.

I don't see either of these becoming favorites, but I give the edge to City of Hope.

While I like both songs so far, I have to agree.

Quite possibly the best work I've heard from Deen that comes to mind.

Just d-loaded and listened to Human Feel for the first time. It rocks and really brings out the color in Deen's eyes! :P The first time I heard the chorus it immediately reminded me of RUSH circa the Signals era. It just sorta has a bouncy, progressive sorta feel to it. Good stuff! Thanks Frontiers for the free ear candy!

Mhm but why no Tweet or FB promo, if this is a planned leak, then tell the world. :?

Journey management is so lame. One clusterfuck after another.....

I noticed that Journey finally fixed the spelling of Nomota on their website after I mentioned it here in this forum. Coincidence?

Also, Lori Carpenter is no longer listed as the designer.
