Here are my pics from the first of my three Journey shows on this UK tour.

Despite the reported sound problems (which I didn't experience - the sound was GREAT where I was) the actual show was excellent, and everybody (except Deen of course) made full use of the enormous stage.

I shared the pit for the whole show with the legendary photographer Ross Halfin and, although he misreported our conversation on his blog afterwards, it was an interesting experience.

Ross Halfin, a legend in his own mind. If you don't know what a great photographer Halfin is, give him five minutes of your time and he'll be sure to tell you.

It was a minor thing but it irritated me at the time. Basically I introduced myself to him after the show and we were chatting in a friendly manner and he asked me how long I’d been photographing Journey. I said something along the lines of ‘since they came back to the UK in 2006’. He piped up with ‘I’ve been shooting them since 1977’.

The following day he reported on his blog that he’d met me and that I’d said I’d been shooting Journey since the very beginning – in 2006! But he made it sound like I was completely ignorant of Journey’s history (hardly likely as my wife helps run the UK Journey fan club) and that I was therefore some kind of imbecile.

Ordinarily I’d have ignored it, and people in the business have since told me that I got off lightly compared to the scathing sarcasm he reserves for most people he meets, but at the time I took it as an insult.

Want us to take care of this, Marty?

Great pictures Pinada looks terrible A kid with tattoos is the lead singer of Journey . Boy did Perry ruin this deal.

So it appears possible that the sound issues are a venue problem That is usually the case when the sound is shit in one area of the bldg and great in another.

Great photos! They all look so old. Except Ross who looks the same as 1983.

Friga has aged better than all of them - guess clean family living does something for the body!

Arnel, well...new moniker for him is Tattoo Boy. All I have to say is Where is Mr. Rourke and Where's da Plane??? Guess all he could muster from his Fantasy Island fantasy is a poor imitation of SP's voice!

Jesus fucking christ people. It's a couple of tattoos and some leather pants. Perry and his native american look and mantoe is no more. Get your chocolate chip covered loon fingers off the keyboard for a while and move the fuck on already.

Ross always looks like he just smoked the biggest bongload. Funny.


Drummers- Deen's got shields up in front of his cymbals. I would think those are to keep the cymbals out of the vocal mic mix. Are those small shields really enough to do that? Seems inadequate if that's the goal. If it's not, what else would they be for?
