Six Degrees of Separation: Journey

You guys are aware of the “Six Degrees of Separation”. Who would be within the six degrees of separation of Journey? If we all compared our interests with music, I bet most of us would find many common denominators. For example, I like to listen to Journey. I also like to listen to Boston, Styx, or Kansas. Many Journey fans also wind up being fans of those bands as well? What other bands do you think would fall into the Six Degrees of Separation: Journey?

If you mean six degrees between Journey and other bands that have played with Journey members, there's actually a lot of 70's classic rock acts that work well with this, most of them via Aynsley Dunbar.

You have Santana and the Babys (of course), David Bowie, Zappa, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Flo and Eddie, The Turtles, Steve Miller Band, Boz Scaggs, Ambrosia, Toto. This is just scratching the surface.

The most surprising ones are Elvis and the Beatles. Aynsley replaced Ringo Starr in Rory Storm and the Hurricanes when Ringo left to join the Beatles. Larrie Londin was Elvis's drummer in the mid 70's.

The Elvis and Beatles connection is very interesting!

There used to be a hand drawn "family tree" of SF area 70s/80s musicians online a couple years back. Showed all the muscians and the bands they played in. It was pretty cool and informative. Can't seem to find the damn thing anywhere online now.

If you ever come across it, please post it! I'd love to see this family tree.

Genesis is another big one for Journey. Touring guitarist Daryl Stuermer played a good bit with Steve Smith before he joined Journey. That breaks you off to all avenues of Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel (endless musicians, including Stewart Copeland of the Police...so Sting falls into the 6 degrees too!), Steve Hackett (Yes, Asia, etc.), Mike Rutherford (Mike and the Mechanics), Chester Thompson (George Duke, Weather Report) and Tony Banks.

Actually, Collins' latest touring drummer, Ricky Lawson, played with Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Babyface, The Yellowjackets, Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Bette Midler, Russell Ferrante, Toto, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Lionel Richie, George Duke

You could spend days linking Journey to some of the most popular musicians and bands around.

Don Johnson and Journey, both with top 10 Billboard hits and stars on the Hollywood WOF.

Johnson was on Miami Vice which featured music by Jan Hammer who did an album with Neal Schon.

I am the one who scanned it and put it online.

It was in an import version of one of their albums, vinyl. I think it goes up to 1982 or so...prior to Street Talk.

Do you still have it? Would be cool if you could put it up here again. 8)

Just came across this pic. Neal, Eddie, and the late John Entwistle. I guess the reported bad blood between Eddie & Neal had not begun yet at this point. This pic looks to be from the late 80s.

Oh, and Monker, do you still have the "BA Musician Tree" discussed above? If you do, could you upload it again please.

Lord Of The Rings.

Fellowship Of The Ring had a song in it sang by Enya. Enya was in Clannad. Clannad sings White Fool, which has Steve Perry on a backing vocal.

I can't believe no one's mentioned REO Speedwagon. The Main Event tour is one of the best I've ever seen....REO, Styx, Journey....unbelievable lineup! If I recall, I saw that tour in 4 cities. It was also the tour Deen used my artwork on his drums....and that was friggin awesome to see on stage. Still pinching myself.

Isn't that the tour where Styx blew Journey off the stage every night?

I didn't see it that way....however....Styx did make damn sure Journey was ON each night....I realy loved all three bands performances each night.
